I need to buy a new jug of powder but.....which one? For 6PPC

I have been shooting Benchmark for last couple of seasons that i shot.
I am thinking of switching to 133 this year but dont have any idea what lot/year

There were some good/bad reports of XBR and availability issues.

And there were reports of several other good ones as well.

What say you and why?

Ive spent the last few days looking and reading.
Gene I am shooting a 6PPC.
What kind of load would I use?
Does it have the temperature temperament 133 has?
 
If you are an odds playing man and are truly willing to do the practice needed to get the handle on it, N-133 is the powder you need to be shooting. Funny to see that on the screen , coming from a guy who has been shooting everything else but for the last 3 years! But statistically, if you will look at the published stats of mtches for just the last 2 years ( the time 8208 XBR has been available ) N-133 has been the top dog in the hunt.

Buy at least 1 case (4-8#) of whatever you can find in your area and find ouot what it takes to make it shoot. Anything less, you are fooling yourself. This is from a guy who has over 200# of various powders I'll be damned if I know what I'm going to do w/ it. And I'm in the market for all the '99 N-133 I can get my hands on!!!!!!!!

If I only had one jug of powder to shoot, it would be N133, any lot, any year. Why ? In our quest for perfection we often overlook good powder seeking great powder. N133 has always been good predictable powder that performs well ( in a 6ppc) in the heat and humidity of the Summer months that we often compete in.

This past year had lots of ups and downs.
No real consistency.
I came in 3rd in the 100 a couple of times had a few small group wins.
We that is several of us seem to think my scope may have gone haywire so I sent that in and have not heard back on the results from Sightron yet.
I may have messed it up since it was one that had the upper and lower screws on it and didnt release them before trying to change poi.
The 2 times I did really well were cooler days and there have been a lot of reports of Benchmark going crazy in the heat and I am finally inclined to agree.
Once I finished 3rd in the 100 but then blew the 200 totally out of the water.
I have not figured out how to control it as the temp rises.
I do know the danger in changing to many things at once but thought I would start with maybe trying xbr or 133 this year, since Benchmark is the only powder I have shot.
If you have info for me that can make a difference I might try to stick with it another year.

Have you tried tuning through a practice day that has the same sort of a temp. rise as the matches that you lost tune at? One thing that I saw, in a video of Mr. Boyer shooting a match, evidently, he went to the line with multiple loads and made his final selection after evaluating sighters. I think that this is a really intelligent approach, and need to try it myself in practice. One more thing, on the scope issue...do you know for sure that the nylon set screws are even needed? Perhaps you are complicating things unnecessarily. Do you know anyone with a Hood scope checker?

Boyd I did. However with a possible scope problem I just never was sure.
I bought the scope used off of ebay a few years ago before I started shooting again.
The guy said he had it fixed by Hoehn. and it had been on a .22 Benchrest gun. I thought it should be safe.
I did call Hoehn about it and tried asking some questions but he would only say just send it back to sightron they would give me a new scope. Which didnt seem likely since it was modified but anywayyyyyy......

I have to buy more powder this year and was looking towards the what if.... and possibly changing powders.
In the face of the fact that there only seems to be one or 2 entries in the lists of winners using it I thought maybe I was in for a change.
However I do not really like the follow the leader mentality.
But what has been proven to work might give me a place to start fresh again.
 
My opinion and thoughts arent really worth a hole lot but my plan for this coming season is to shoot IMR 8208 (in my favorite lot) for my 6ppc but i am also going to continue my testing with ramshot x- terminator. I havent shot it a lot, but what little i have, it looked promising. There are other powders that will work, but it is like anything else. You have to learn them! Lee
 
I know nothing, but i just got done watching,jack neary on youtube tuneing a rifle with N 133 and after watching i think i maybe going to give it
another try. if you have seen in good, if you havent its worth watching..dont know how to post a link, just go to youtube and type in jack neary benchrest.
 
What is wrong with N133? It seems to me that N133 just keeps winning and winning....like the Everready bunny. I have tried 2015, 3032, H4198, Benchmark,IMR8208, T-32, 8208XBR, H322 and 4197, and I will take the N133 over any of those. The T-32 is just as good, but it is unavailable...so I will invest my money in N133 from now on. Good shooting.....James

You are not alone. I won the 100 at the Score Nationals this year and did not even make top 20 at 200. But it was not my Powder, or my Scope, or any other part of my equipment, it was 100% shooter error. I do not know you, but I can simply make the observation the problem is quite often not the equipment.

Long time no see/hear.
Your right about the fun but it helps a little to win or come close once in a while or at least be consistent.

Dick you could very well be right I do tend to blame myself more often than anything else but, then I had another guy shoot my gun and he had the same problems.
I shot his and could get a high 1 at the same time he was shooting mine and got a .3+.
So I know I can shoot its just that something is not right in my mix including me.
