You invited you state or federal representative ... congressman or senator to a Benchrest match ??? It seems to me, that we as shooters, need to promote our sport and the way we conduct it, just as hard as our opposition is promoting their carnage and death matches on the streets of our cities. Today is a perfect example, 14 dead including the gunman and 4 sent to the hospital. There is absolutely no indication that the shooter was an IBS or NBRSA member. And, I don't say that to be smart.

We're falling behind in our efforts to show the media, politicians, friends and foes alike, how we conduct ourselves when we safely and conscientiously handle firearms. If we don't start promoting our responsible behavior hard, then we're going to lose out in the long run. Some might even say we've lost already. It's something to think about. Positive Public Relations can go a long way !!!

When was the last time you invited your congressman, senator or local news anchor to a Benchrest match ??? :)

The press has a standing inviation to stand behind my target while I shoot! ;)

Seriously, that is not a bad idea!

I think Obama needs to go to a target shoot of some sort. Trap, bench . . .

when are you boyscouts gonna realize that they don't care if you play good and pick-up your toy's when done. Look at what Jesus showed man and look at what the powers to be did to the son of God. It aint gonna work ,they want your guns and if we keep sitting back and wasting our time trying to prove to them that we're good little boy's and girl's we'll end up losing it all. The pendellum is swinging in their favor, what do we do now ?

Here's their PR:

A string of attacks in the U.S. in the last month left 44 people dead in all. A gunman killed 10 people and himself in Samson, Ala.; shootings that began with a traffic stop in Oakland, Calif., left four police officers and the gunman dead; an apparent murder-suicide in Santa Clara, Calif., left six dead; and a gunman went on a rampage at a nursing home Sunday, killing seven elderly residents and a nurse who cared for them. Yesterday a gun killed 14 including himself and put 4 others in the hospital.

Anyone can restate the problem and ask, what do we do now ??? What's your plan for countering these stories ??? We're all ears.

Gov't would like nothing better than to disarm us with as little disruption as possible, until they find a way to do so we should come "together" as the "powerful" voting block that we are we may get more well deserved respect just by or numbers alone. Sitting on our duff's aint gonna cut it. We,ve lost many supporters thru death of the "Greatest Generation" being phased out and the new generation being taught that guns are "bad" early on in school we're just study losing ground.
The NRA is a good start, their annual dues are less than a "dinner for two" that's a very small price to pay for the joy we continue to receive. Donating a few times a year helps our cause too but we got to ask ourselves honestly,as a threatened group of "Americans", can we put a price on "freedom" ?

Most "News anchors" don't...........

WANT to come to your nice little benchrest matches, they are too afraid of being infected and "losing their objectivity"; besides, I have seen them shocked speechless after getting a message that, "The management says you'd better not say ANYthing...." at a rally. They also cannot appear as though they are leaning.... and some are mini-celebs and don't want the exposure, but, you can try. Some politicos may attend, & if you can get them, more power to you. Have you sponsored an nra "Women on Target" day, recently?? Have one on rifles, then another on shotguns, & of course, one on handguns. Have lunch provided, tell them guns are provided, but they can bring whatever they have, & if they don't know how to operate it, they'll be shown. Make the pitch on the radio, most stations are crying for public service announcements, & most will carry numerous announcements for free. And see if you can get some volunteers to bring their ARs, AKs, AUGs, KOCH-lers or whatever they have & some ammo, because these people HEAR about these things, but they never get the opportunity to SEE one, much less to touch AND SHOOT ONE and the "coolness factor" isn't lost on them. Believe me, women, children, even FATHERS will enjoy this, I've seen it. Invite the press, but don't be disappointed if they don't show. Get in touch w/the National Shooting Sports Foundation, they have something called "First Shots Day", or something; they can help, and its best to have female instructors. Its also good to have Zeke n' Clyde stay home(y'know, the guys who look & smell like they live in the woods, 365??). Its also handy if you have a juniors program, if you don't already have one. You might also have a couple "Medical Days at The Range", where you invite personnel from the local trauma center, this way, the folks who had to work, can attend on a subsequent event, these people always see the results, but most don't know or understand, the positive side. It is also handy if you don't try to make instructors out of your guests. It is helpful if you have enough people standing by who can stand & watch & be ready to step forward if something appears to be moving toward danger(nervousness) and say(not shout!!):"Stop, just think of what you're doing." Then, when the action stops, to calmly & clearly explain the steps. It is also helpful if the shooters wear disposable plugs, but instructors & safety personnel wear electronics. Be prepared to wrangle lots of volunteers through arm-twisting, & have a meeting to instruct them on what is, & isn't, proper. Then, after the first one, be prepared for increased applications to join your club, because women want to find venues for the "Next Step"; they WILL want more shooting, and this will help out with the plans to innovate your juniors program, too. Make sure everyone has a good time ;).

The guy wrote as follows: I think Obama needs to go to a target shoot of some sort. Trap, bench . . .

Here in Wisconsin, during the 2004 campaign, John Kerry took a borrowed shotgun, went up to the trap line, and broke 17 out of 20 targets. No one can do that who hasn't had some shooting experience -- esp. with a borrowed gun.

It didn't help the poor b___. All the gun defenders just dumped on him endlessly. We wound up with a president that -- well, if you think he was "great" you and I can't communicate.

Obama says he is for gun rights. At the same time, we are encountering a rash of mass murders. I don't know if there's going to be any kickback or not.

Lest folks think I am anti-gun, I've got a closet full of them, and I use them.

As for the issue, frankly, it's important to me, but it is not the center of my universe. One of the posts above mixes gun rights with religious faith. Heck -- that's about a million miles from where I am.

Regarding the gun/religious post it was no more than an analogy, at least thats how I took it. No mixing of the two.
