Recently I become involved in an a discussion on custom barrels. Is there a winning combination for the throating of a competition bench rest rifle, such as a tapered lead or square sharp rifeling ends, or are they simply all different. Any coment would be very much appreciated?:confused:

Thanks Butch, so the throat is cut tapered to match the bullet ogive?

1.5 degree taper is the general rule with the length of the parallel section to fit bullet and desired seating depth.

For a 6ppc, a cylindrical section of about .045-.060 followed by a throat angle of 1.5 degrees per side is typical.

Lead dimensions

Thanks Butch you have answered my question.:D
