What Happened to the NRA Thread?

It disappeared and I never saw a deletion post, explanation, no nuthin. If it was out of line, fine, but some kind of warning woulda been nice. Just sayin...

I didn't exactly agree with your position then , but I sure do about it being removed without nothing said.

Hope it wasn't my fault - I probably mentioned a specific politician by name one too many times, and that's probably not good for the longevity of any thread.

The important point of the original thread, I felt, was that the NRA proudly bills itself as a "single-issue organization". If you're a single issue voter, then you're probably fine with whoever the NRA endorses. On the other hand, if freedom of speech, rights vs. entitlements, choosing your own doctor, or the amount of debt being left for future generations are important when you cast your vote, you may be sorely disappointed with who the NRA endorses.

Myself, I'm tired of supporting those sort of compromises, and think the NRA is being played like a fiddle. My support of 2nd Ammendement rights will be aimed more carefully in the future... there are alternatives to the NRA.

I am an NRA member and proud of it.

However, if you have any doubts about the NRA position on national issues, consider the three leading guest speakers for the NRA Convention this year.

They were Sarah Palin, Glen Beck, and Newt Gingritch.

That said, I am very glad and grateful they are marshalling us to fight for our legitimate gun rights.

Well, I don't know if our "rights" ARE.....................

legitimate yet, Pete. It seems to me that every time we turn around, we have to jump through more hoops, in an ever-narrowing field, to get the government to "legitimize", by acknowledgement, our "rights". And the time between those recognitions is getting farther apart. The part that really ticks me off is, that all the rest of the time we're systematically marginalized as some gnat in the face of "legitimate government". The fact that we have to "fight for our rights" or to marshal groups to help us "fight" for our "rights" is proof to me that our rights aren't being recognized, as a RIGHT. And we tend to accept that attitude, because of the endless stream of "applications" (asking for permission to do something) we have to fill out, just to live our everyday lives. We have accepted the status quo for too long, and the time is rapidly drawing near when an assertive message needs to be sent, to the effect that, this is it, we may be "the governed" but we are not going to offer our consent to be so, unless our country is run on a more responsible method.

Izzit time to get out th' pitchforks, stakes, torches an' tar, yet??

I believe more politicians need to awaken to the fact that re-calls can, and in warranted cases WILL be made, and not at the polls in 2, 4, or 6 years. No, you don't show me you take this job seriously in TWO years, and start turning things around for the better, or I'm going to begin procedures to fire your rosy hindparts down the pike.:eek::D
I believe if you get a couple national state and local sugar-tit feeders recalled, others will realize there IS some responsibility required to be in office, any office, from dog-catcher on up.
Right now, the biggest job in washington is NOT representative or senator, its GETTING RE-ELECTED, and, getting corporations, organizations, and lobbyists to pay off for pork to get the stamp of approval from the people back home as the best thing they can get. Two of the best examples of that was "Splash" kennedy, and former Klansman, robt. byrd. And, there are others, like ted "bridge to nowhere" stevens, etc. People like this need to be on a short leash, or excommunicated; the real problem is that there are so many out there that want to curry favor w/the glitterati in politics that, instead of shunning these people and ignoring them as undesirable, they'll always have someone running up, wanting to be their understanding "friend" and console them in their solitude.

But, that's just my take on things, and I guess to the communists in dc, that's radical....so be it.

As far as "single-issue" voters are concerned, perhaps if MORE voters WERE "single-issue" voters, then more pols would realize that some things need to turn around, and fast!! Now, I vote for the betterment of schools, etc. BUT, whether a runner gets a yay or nay from me, hinges on one thing only, I don't let them hide behind hot-button, or "feel-good" issues, either.

And speaking of schools, why is it that we are second or third in the world on educational SPENDING, and we are always seventeenth or lower on educational STANDINGS in the world?? That, to me, is an obscenity. It says we aren't demanding enough responsibility from "educators"(that are FAILING to educate). They have a cushy job, as head of the board of education, say, as a result of being appointed by a governor to take the flak for him/her when things don't go the way they should. The root of that problem is a union that can foist whatever they believe education is, on us....because they can. The parents don't have much say anymore on teacher retention.

Anyhow, I've solved enough problems for today, guys, call on me anytime...;)..:D..:D

Education system only takes them far enough to understand the word "free" or "supplied by the take-a -mint", not the backside cost to go along with those freebies. I have 3 children, one a phd in organic chemistry, he has bought the lib view point hook line and sinker, the second is a US Army, Special forces Sargent, not exactly sure of his political views the last is a Daughter entering college no idea there either, but far enough away to perhaps develop her own thoughts rather than mimicking her mother's somewhat liberal views. I am sincerely sorry that they are going to have to pay the price for the fallacy of the idiots in DC and our own inability to control them.

I believe you'll find that the discussion of politics or anything approximating it is best reserved for other sites since it bares little resemblance to the true hard core discussion of "B"enchrest. When it deviates profoundly ... its gone. :)

That would make it nearly impossible to have a meaningful discussion about the NRA, their intent, actions and motives...as they are inextricably entwined with politics, are they not?

Well, I prefaced my thread with that very statement about politics, and it remained and had a post by a Moderator that contributed to the subject. Since the NRA is an intricate part of all our lives and interests, I thought it germane to our cause. I only ask why and when it was dumped. Most deleted posts have some sort of notice.

But thanks for your policing......

I don't know what happened to the NRA thread. When I last saw it it was gentle enough. I suspect that someone posted something that was over the top and another moderator deleted the whole thing and that was the proper thing to do.

You might not realize it but people who are not of our persuasion on the second amendment also look for things on sites like these to make us all look like fire breathing wild eyed gun toting radicals with itchy trigger fingers. A tighter rein when the subject goes off into politics should be understood when viewed in that light.

I hope that we all understand and I hope that no one is offended. It probably was not personal.

Wayne,

I don't police. Only Moderators can do that. I only conveyed my observations over time.

Evolution of general discussion

I believe you'll find that the discussion of politics or anything approximating it is best reserved for other sites since it bares little resemblance to the true hard core discussion of "B"enchrest. When it deviates profoundly ... its gone. :)

In the old days (more than a year ago) the General Discussion Forum had a lot of political threads. Most were informative (I learned a lot) and entertaining. A few contributors just could not help being insulting, rude and nasty. After a time it got to the point where it was mostly hot air by the same few people and the crudeness had to end. Those in control established the "politics free" rule which has mostly been followed. But it seems that whenever a political thread starts, most of the time eventually the hot air re-surfaces and the thread goes away. It's really too bad that the "bad apple" effect lives on.
