Well...
It was a good day for shooting, Lynn.
My understanding is that Don and Lou were shooting short range at Visalia. They were missed.
I don't have the scores in front of me, so, going from my failing memeory...
The turnout was light, which allowed us to shoot only two relays, each six five shot light gun targets.
The day was a little overcast, with a brief appearance from the sun during the first relay, which may have complicated things for them.
Conditions--virtually no wind--held until the last target of the second relay.
Leroy Johnson was there, as well as John Adams from Pala.
John Crawford's rifles were accurate as ever, even in the hands of his guest, Leslie, who shot at least one extremely small group.
I believe Barry shot very well, and will be near the top in the results.
As to records, we don't know.
I'm not entirely comfortable discussing this in public, as I don't want to put any additional pressure on the talented men that make these tough decisions.
Barry's targets may be on their way for confirmation, I don't know, but I know mine will be.
I shot second relay, 6X47 Lapua, Barnard action, Bartlein barrel, and managed some good scores and reasonable groups. Most of my groups were 2.xxx, but I farmed the last target with a 4.xxx.
So the group records are in no danger from me.
I did, however, manage a string of high scores, mainly 50s, 49s, and 48s, to shoot a 289 out of 300 if my math is correct.
Which was marred only by a crossfire on target number 2.
My understanding is that my scores will not apply to the existing six target light gun record, as that record applies to scores shot over three days, only at the Nationals I presume.
It is also my understanding that I may have a chance at the three target light gun score record, presuming everything pans out in my favor in the crossfire issue.
Now... it is not entirely clear to me whether this record is limited to the first three targets and then the second three targets, but it does seem to me that if the best three targets are chosen out of the six targets shot, excluding the crossfire target, the crossfire issue can be avoided, as I shot a bunch of good targets.
I believe.
It is very important to me to add that it is not my intent at all to influence those that make these tough decisions.
I'll be more than happy to abide by their decision.
Gratefully.
To me, it was just the usual day at Ojai, trying to remember to check the parallax, maintain good sight picture, and, well, trigger control.
All of this does, though, Lynn, confirm that Ojai is a great range to shoot.
