Weaver Target Scopes

Just how good are weaver target scopes compared to leupold. Weaver is so much cheaper. I am talking about the 35 power scopes and are they enough power for 600\1000 yards matchs or should I be looking at more power.

Weaver

kb,
If you can aford it buy a Nightforce for the long ranges and the extra mag.,but for the money you cannot beat the Weaver,I shoot one on occasion at 600 on a 30BR.

Let me start by saying that I have 6 Weaver T-36s and have never had one fail. On a performance for the buck basis they are the best starter target scopes.

I have shot both 600 and 1000 yard matches with Weaver T-36s and not been at the bottom of pack. They are marginal at 600 yards but inadequate at 1000 yards.

Last spring I switch to a March 60x 52mm on my heavy gun for long range. Is it worth 5x more dollars -YES! - at least to me and my old eyes.

Weaver T36

At 100 & 200 yard matches I see the 36 power Weavers (T36) all over the place. I have never used anything other than the T36. I had one that had been boosted to 45X which I really liked.

Weaver scopes

I have 3 Weaver T-24s': all great scopes for the money, approx. $360 each. High & low turrets, sunshade and screw-on lens caps, all nice features that many others do not provide. Optically, mine are not far from my $400 to $600 Leupolds. Have never had a problem and would not hesitate to buy another.

Has anybody had problems with them holding zero? What about adjustments on rifles with more recoil than a .22lr (does 5 minutes of clicks deliver 5 minutes of poi change reliably)?

I'm considering one of their varmint models after having checked out the turrets/clicks and lense clairity on my dad's T36 on his .22lr.

I use Weaver T36 on 30BR without issue.
Don't know about the clicks being perfect, never tried.
The Weaver Grand Slam is clearer than their target models.

For a long time the Weaver T24 was the favorite for silhouette shooters because of their Microtrac dialing system. It was unparalled for it's repeatability. The patent ran out and reportedly Sightron adopted it in some of thier offerings. I have heard that the Sightrons and Weavers are made in the same facility but don't know ifin its the truth. I have several Sightrons, several Weavers, several Leupolds and a Nightforce. My sillywet scopes were the Leupold 6.5x24. Still have them. Also had two or three of them boosted by Premier. Except for the cheep Sightrons, they are all very durable. The lower end Sightrons are just that.Lower end. Will save up to buy better. You can see good enough thru all of but they do vary from scope to scope and some of it is purely subjective. For 600 yds I have a fixed 40x Nightforce on one gun and a 36x weaver on another. I don't feel like I'm giving up much to the Nightforce with the Weaver. You can tell the difference but ... they ain't Marches. Had one guy tell me his Nightforce is better than his March, but I read a thread somewhere in which nothing but extremely high praise for the Marches was given.
I tell you all this in order to be able say that imho you can't beat a Weaver for the bucks.

Weaver Varmint scopes

bennybooboo: The original posting was related to the Weaver target scopes, but you have commented about an interest in the varmint line, and for that I can relate a little experience. Bought a Weaver 4-16x-42mm several years ago: clicks are positive, never had a tracking or repeatability problem, but-- Clarity from 4x to around 8x is very good. From 8x to 12x starts to look like a light ground fog is between you and the target. From 12x to 16x you're looking thru moderate ground fog. Optical quality is just not there at the higher settings. Would I buy another one of these? No. I'd add just a few dollars more and get one of the VX 11 Leupolds. Have 7 Leupolds and they are all trouble-free, excellent scopes.

So how much does it cost to have one of the t-36 weavers boosted and how far can they go with them. And if I was only going to shoot max 300 yards how much do I need?

Buy a Weaver, you won't be disappointed. I have 6 of them and use them in smallbore prone, mid and long range prone and F class. Go to www.killoughshooting sports for the best prices and customer service. I will say I own a NF 12x42 BR and when the mirage kicks up around here I usually crank the power down a tad.

The T36 can be boosted to 45X.

Burris and Weaver

I have had some repeatability issues with my Leupold scopes but not durability issues with them. I have one Weaver target scope- a T15. It is a great scope- the adjustments are absolutely repeatable but it is only 15x. I used it when I first started out shooting 1000 yd BR because it was all I could afford. I later switched to an 8x32 Burris Signature that I took off my prairie dogging rifle. That proved to be a very good target scope. If I drew the first relay, I could shoot it cranked all the way to 32, but if I got a later relay- in the summer, I had to turn it down a little.

I think the Weavers are great scopes for the money.

I tried the 3X booster on the T36 and had the same results. However the scope seems to be OK otherwise. Not quite as good as the Leupold but good enough for 100/200 yds. Decent value for the money. I have two T36's and one definately has better optics than the other.

There is more than one way to get it to 45X. Have you tried having the objective lens replaced? Once you do this, you will never look back

And who does this and for how much?
