Weather for the Butner 1K match Saturday

Charles E

curmudgeon
Saturday
Partly cloudy. High of 81F. Winds from the NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Morning low forecast as 52F, so bring a jacket. It don't get much better.

Of course, those of us who shoot .338s could wish for more wind, to push them little bullets around.

Edit:

Should have mentioned that the humidity is suppose to be low, for a "real-feel" of 84-F.

Another Edit:

Gas just dropped into the $3.40s in this area of North Carolina, & it's real gas, no Ethanol. All you West Virginians paying $3.80 should come on down & fill up!

All the little things point to it being a great day to go shooting...

Everything was as advertised except the forecast of the wind. It *might* have died down to 5-10 mph by 5:00 pm

Hi Charles any results posted. Did you shoot .375 Hornady cases?

Not yet.

Results will be posted on our webiste

http://www.northcarolina1000.com/match-results.html

and the IBS website

http://internationalbenchrest.com/results/long_range/_longrangeindex.php

I think they generally appear about the same time. The few people that stayed to help clean & prepare the range got away at 7:30pm, still unfed, and miles to go. Unless we can get some more volunteers (Tim?), match results are just going to take a few days.

Oh, yeah. I forgot -- The computer system failed, so everything was done by hand. It's going to take a while to get results in machine form.

No, the .338/.375 is still a gleam in my eye. Tooley is getting the barrel from Bartlien. So far, we've had a nine-month wait. Perils of ordering a .338, for which the military can at any time place an order & pre-empt any civilian orders, I guess.

I did shoot the .338/404 LG. In the morning, in my relay, I had one of the two top scores -- both were 39s. Neither of us had any X's, but Shannon Lowman had a smaller group. In the calmer conditions of the afternoon, in my relay, I had one of the two top scores -- both were 50s. Neither of us had any X's, but Shannon had a smaller group.

This is getting tiresome ;-)

A lesser man than Shannon would have said "See, my 6mm Dasher can keep up with the .338." But he didn't, 'cause he knows full well that if you build 100 rifles & give them to 100 shooters, and ensure the wind is always 15+ mph, the .338s would come out on top.

Right now, I believe Shannon leads the IBS points race. I'm encouraged I could wrangle a tie.

EDIT:

Much more important:

Thomas Ellington had been stuck at 59.9 points for about a year. Yesterday, he won both a relay and a match.

Congratulations on reaching the Silver level, Thomas. There are, in the whole world, only 27 people who have gotten that many points.
