Vortex Viper 6 -24 x 50 FFP . EBR-1 Milrad reticule

I have the same scope except the MOA on pre-order from SWFA. These scopes are not out for delivery yet. SWFA told me today that they are still holding to the May delivery. Other places claim that not before the middle of June. As for what I have read of Viper scopes I have not heard one bad thing said about any of them. The equivalent Leupold will cost you about $1700 and not have an illuminated reticule and many rate the glass better than the Leupold scopes and the tracking is supposed to be spot on.

suitability question

I really don't see a need for such a big heavy scope to be used for shooting game within reason of the 30-06AI.

A Leupold 4.5-14x40 or even the 6.5-20x40 would be perfect using the Boone and Crockett or Long Range Reticle.

Hi John. Sorry, I know nothing about the Vortex scopes. An optics retailer here (SWFA) usually publishes a yearly scope ranking but I can't find one for 2010. So have included the link from the 2009 ranking. Looks like they rank the Vortex Viper the same as the Leupold Mk IV and Meopta's-

Hope that helps.

Not here yet........

Vortex is still building them...mid June is what I've heard...

Should be an excellent scope with precision adjustments

and excellent glass....I've got two of the Viper 6-24x50s and

they work very well on heavy p/dog guns....

Thanks for the replies , that sounds very encouraging.
I agree that the magnification could be less and the scope smaller but It's the only scope I could find with the reticle I want and all the features I want at an affordable price.
