Vortex optics.

been a while between my last question, almost 1 year. does any one have any input, exp with the Vortex 8-32 x 50 Crossfire V-plex scope. I hear a lot of good talk about their clarity, tube structure etc... but no real input on the 8-32, tons of info on the 6-24x50. I usually shoot 500 yds and in, (baby stuff) and hole great groups @ 300, but past that I cannot see enough paper with my 4-16x50 mil-dot I am currently using. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all ( for those that helped with the brass issue I had), I am new here and usually don't ask a lot, just read. Your website has helped me a great deal.

Thank you

"Tube structure"? As to clarity with a scope of such high magnification and low price (MSRP $249), I'd be very skeptical: http://www.vortexoptics.com/riflesc...-32x50-ao-riflescope-fine-v-plex-wide-reticle

If you want a scope in that magnification range, then I suggest you look at the Burris Black Diamond (or Pentax LS30 variant, made by Burris) or the excellent new Sightron SIII. These scopes will cost more, and they are worth the difference. Dim, mediocre optics aren't worth your time or money.

If that price point is the budget, then I would recommend you have a look at the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18.

I bought a lightseeker 30 scope 8-32 model. I thought for the amount of money the scope cost it would be a lot better. I would absolutely not buy another!!!

Burris Signature 8-32

I have a Signature 8-32 with the iris thingy inside to darked the tube in bright light. It tracks near perfect and very sharp- no complaints from me.

OK, it seems strange. PLEASE do not take this wrong. Savage Shooters.com pumps the Vortex to the max, I too shoot a Savage F-TR 30" SS BBL Laminated Stock, 308 Win. hand loads are grouping .378 @ 200 yards. (baby shots I know) but our local range only has 200 yd max, My gun club has 300 yards and in. It's a 1 hour drive vs 20 min drive. My point in "not taking this wrong was" I know Savage is not a high $ gun, therefore most people will not invest a lot of cash in upper end optics. I am more than pleased with my savage, out shoot most Rem 700's I go up against :D. I want a good quality, variable mil-dot scope for punching paper @ 300 to 600 yards. The more I read, the more I know NF is the "BEST", not totally out of my price range, but would like to stay under a grand if at all possible. My local gun store Specialty Arms in Lavergne TN is willing to order anything I want. I just need some solid input from you men for a good upper budget optics for my 308, $1000.00 in IMHO is upper budget. If any Savage shooters took offense, I offer my apology, that was not my intentions. I only want to cry one time over a scope. Mil-dot.:D

not sure what type of time frame ur in, but Sightron is supposed to have 8-32x50 LR in mildot soon. Bill Ackerman will change reticles for u for like $150.00?? Otherwise, there is Leupold (hate to recommend them), Nightforce which I highly like and use, I am hearing good stuff on the Sightron Big Sky models, But overall you still want something that tracks and holds 100% without question or any doubts. With the last statement, thats why my 3 comp. rifles wear NF BR's NP-R2's.
The last couple of matches I've shot, 95% of the scopes on the line are NF's. You still see a couple of Leupold Comp. 35x,40x,45x. But other than that, Thats what I'm seeing.

One that comes to mind is Bushnell Elite 3200 8-32 or the Elite 6500 of which both have Mil-Dot for a lot lower cost, good clean, crisp optics.

hope some this helps

I have a Savage with a 30BR Kreiger barrel. Just like my Benchrest rifles. It is topped with a Weaver T36.

Adrian

Weaver T36x is another option, however mirage might win u over if you shoot in the heat of the day and not having the ability to turn the magnification down. I often turn my NF 8-32 down to better read the mirage ripple.

So you're claiming that your rifle shoots well below 1/2 MOA, or do you mean sub 1/2" ? ...at 200y.

And you think you need a different scope. And you ask about a scope that has an MSRP of $250, but then you say the budget is a grand?

I don't have a degree in math, but this isn't adding up.

Whatever... buy a new Sightron SIII in 6-24x50 Mildot from Larry Scott.

As to your groups, let's see a target. Talk is cheap. Good scopes are not.

maybe somebody can shed some light on the new Nikon Monarch 8-32 with ED glass. I haven't heard to much about these...Will somebody comment on these please? no trying to hyjack ur thread, but this may help u as well. My guess is there reticles are still to thick for any precise aiming.

I called Ackerman, he can only add dots. He cannot change reticles. I wanted a fine crosshair put into the 8-32. It does not make sense to have a scope with that magnification and a 1/4 min dot. Way too big.
Joe

I agree Joe, thanks for clearing up the reticle swap( or should I say no reticle swap) and he only adds dots...now u mention it, thats what he told me too.

I think if you would read the ORIGINAL question, you would see I was not planning on buying one, I was simply asking about the optics. I ordered a new Sightron SIII 8-32 from Specialty Arms, spending $800 plus, so there blows you opinion of my CHEAP BUDGET. As far as my ability to DOT an I at 500 yards and in. Get inside of it and I'll show in person what the USMC did for me and my shooting you FRN.

1) making threats on the internet, for all to see, is stupid and reckless.
2) you seem to have forgotten the value of restraint, courtesy, and respect that are hallmarks of the Corps.
3) name calling? Grow up.

As to shooting lessons, I helped a recruit score Expert while in boot camp, but he'd be too modest about it to bray like a jackass on the internet. Lesson there too.

You ought to try that post again...this really turned cluster f..k

Please remember kiddies, Semper Fi does NOT mean piss and moan!!!!

Sir:
I offer my apology for insulting you in my reply. I was not in the best of moods that day and verbal bashing is not accepted by fellow Marines. I did take your help and input serious, I have mounted the Sightron S111 on my rifle and it shoots great, my groups are still 1/2" @ 200 yards but I can see so much better with the higher power now. Again, I am sorry for offending you and any other member of Benchrest for my verbal outbreak. I usually just visit this site for input and reading posts and articles and have found (for the most part) the information here is spot on.

Bill:
I posted an apology for you and all fellow Marines and Member of Benchrest Central to read. Thank you for kicking my A$$, I deserve it, Sir. Restraint, courtesy and respect are the hallmarks and I was STUPID to let them slip away in my text. Salute:

I am testing a Monarch 8-32 for PS magazine at the the present. So far, it seems that it is a quality scope. I will shoot it in a match in two weeks....then, I will know more. Mine has the duplex type reticle and it may be a little thick for some applications, but seems okay for 600 yard use. It has a 1 inch tube...therefore it has limited adjustment range. I have it mounted on a BAT/Krieger BR rifle in 6 Dasher with Gene Bukys' adjustable mount. See photo. James
