I've used nothing but a Dewey pointed brass jag just like this one: https://www.deweyrods.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=87_89&product_id=169 for my custom Krieger barrels.
I take a square patch, spread JB on it like I'm spreading peanut butter lightly on a piece of bread [you don't need a lot], then pierce the patch in the center, so when I run it down the barrel it's nice and snug. 3 to 5 tight fitting patches is all that's needed.
After watching Brownell's video, I would suspect that the process they go through [which is more elaborate] is intended for factory barrels.

jb is designed to be applied with pressure.
this is done with a wrap jag and patch.
apply the paste to a patch, wrap around the jag and insert....should be more than snug as in tight.
no pressure no real affect from the paste.
you can stroke all you want, but no pressure no real benefit.

Brownell has video on YouTube that shows them using 3 felt pallets on a special pallet jag that they make for this purpose.
It seemed very snug and the pressure looked to be very even. On the downside, their might be the risk of a pallet coming loose inside the barrel. I will stick with the undersized nylon brush or the jag method for now.
