Varying trigger pull weight

My 30BR has a Jewell trigger with a strange characteristic.
Now and then the break will come with a high pull weight. Some 4 to 5 times higher than the normal 2 oz break.
It seems that all is well with finger pad placement on the center of the trigger, or the right edge. If, however, the finger pad is off to the left edge, the break point goes way up in pull effort.
All I have done so far is check accessible screws for tightness and flushed with alcohol.
I was a little spooked out until I figured out the finger placement thing.
Any ideas on the cause?

No, but I bet these guys might:

See my email to you with an attachedView attachment 13069 break down picture of the trigger. They a pretty simple to take apart to check for any foreign particles in it. Or...just click on the attach msg on this post.

good luck...virg

One thing to try is to flush it with lighter fluid. Most alcohols leave the engagement surfaces too dry. Lighter fluid is leaves a slightly oily coating.

I have a Jewell BR trigger that acts that way except not repeatable. It also won't cock upside down.

Neither of these symptoms is normal.

I've had the trigger apart numerous times and can't find anything obviously broken. It functions smoothly. I can't compare with any of my other triggers because this is old style, it doesn't look at all like the drawing that comes with a new Jewell, the parts are differently shaped. I believe the problem to be one of warped parts....... this trigger has been the subject of blanked primers.

Jewell doesn't diagnose over the phone, this one's packaged up to go back.

My problem is 100% repeatable, but I can work around it.
Looking at Virg's photo I would think the side plate is offering friction with trigger side pressure. Power grain caught in there should get crunched and lessen with use....I would think.
Maybe a winter project. The list is getting long.

fishbone,
Sounds like you might have the overtravel screw, the middle one, set a little too close. Try turning it in
about 1/8th of a turn.
