UPS again

Bought a new Ruger MPR but the trigger was faulty. Called customer service and they gave me a RMA and prepaid shipping label for UPS. Boxed the gun up and took it to the UPS hub in Fort Worth. The agent refused to accept the gun for shipment. She claimed I needed to provide her with a copy of Ruger's FFL. We went around for a bit until I finally asked for her supervisor. Took about 15 minutes before the supervisor sashayed out in a dress of many colors and sporting six inch fingernails and lots of gold jewelry. We went around for 15 minutes or so but she was adamant that she would not accept the gun. Finally she said, "why don't you set it up for pick up at your address"? Angry and disgusted I went home to call Ruger and get shipping label for Fedex. While at my computer I decided to go to the UPS web site and try the home pick up. The web site wasn't set up to handle the prepaid label so I called UPS and was able to set it up on the phone. About two hours later the doorbell rang and a UPS driver took the package, scanned it and left. I'm trying to figure out the rationale of UPS how it is OK to pick up a gun at my house but not accept it at their location. Oh well, as Schiller said,"Against stupidity even the Gods themselves contend in vain".

Because they have twits at UPS who don't know the rules. Or pretend that they don't. No FFL is needed if the gun is being sent in for repair. UPS often opens packages too. Years ago I was shipping firearms and the lady said I needed an FFL number. Part of my return address included my phone number to call on arrival. She looked at the number and said, "Oh, there it is". I smiled and thought, what a doofus. A local gun store owner who I bought 2 actions from said never to use UPS, but FEDEX instead. They don't ask what's in the box or open it either. Also the head honcho at FEDEX is one of the biggest boosters of the NRA and NRA-ILA.

I've had good luck with USPS

but that said, just recently I sent a shotgun to Giacomos in NY. I made the mistake of telling him what it was. The Brewer, Me clerk said I couldn't ship a shotgun. I told him he was not correct and that I could to a licensed repair shop and dealer. He went out back and consulted his supervisor. He came back and said I could as long as it was broken down. It just happened it was so I didn't argue with him that the super was wrong about that too. Anyway off it went and got there safely. The level of total ignorance to their own regs sometimes is appalling. --greg

Sometimes it's preferable to deny rather than read. The difference in home shipment vs shipping from the hub is purely who accepted the package! Seems I remember the same deal about FedEx but I can't be sure.

Additionally, the person you deal with may be an anti-gun type.

UPS = Morons

2007 I sold Jeff Summers my Young Rail Gun, the top was in a beautiful Oak box, my local gun shop has a guy that used to work for UPS and we packed it up real good. When the Boxes showed up at Jeffs FFL, the UPS guy had the Rail Top box on his shoulder, and flipped off his shoulder onto a concrete floor and the box was totally destroyed, the Leupold 36X scope was bent. It took the better part of 8 months and at least 100 phone calls, and many frustrating hours on the phone to collect $950.00 from the insurance I paid for!
Never ever use UPS unless there is no other way!

FedEx Or Not At All

FedEx Express Saver, Is their least expensive Air Service, packages get better care and never get lost.

They sometimes either open or x-ray packages. Awhile back they had a lot of people try to scam them by shipping damaged goods and then having the recipient file a damage claim. Greg Tanner prefers that you not ship stuff to him via FEDEX ; he says delivery to his shop is problematic.

UPS is a last resort for me:

They brought us HASMAT charges. They don't have to charge it but they do. They don't handle HAZMAT stuff any different than the other freight they bring to us Sooooo, to heck with them I say.
