The drive to Two Brothers almost ended the entire day as water, left by Harvey, had pooled on the two lane highway between Franklin and Auburn. I usually run about 60 mph, but since it was still misting and dark I was closer to 45-50. If I had been going much faster I may well have lost control of the car and trailer. When I did get to the range I learned that I was not the only one who nearly lost it in the water. The road down to the shed was very muddy and I brought several pounds of it back home with me. If the sun hadn't dried things out I may have gotten stuck. I know this all sounds like it was a disastrous day, but fortunately that wasn't the case. By the time we started the first match at a little after 8:00 the light drizzle had stopped. The only damage was that the backers were still wet and made the first couple of relays somewhat difficult to score. We had a very good turnout considering the weather and much flooding in the area.
22 rifles contested the match. The wind was 5-10 mph for most of the day. It seemed to me the 100 yards was more difficult than 200, but that could have been my perception. There wasn't much switching @ 100, but the pick ups and let offs were tough to deal with. @ 200 there was more switching, but the velocity was less. Jr Rigsby gave us a break and only shot one rifle, so he only won Custom Class. After having to take off most of the summer for a variety of reasons Ron Jackson came back and took Unlimited in only his 2nd match of the season and breaking in a new barrel. Joey Gregory shot a fine 498 to take Factory Class.
Hope to see a bunch of you at the UBR National in Buck Creek KY in two weeks (September 15-16). I will remind everyone that there is no qualification necessary. Just show up with a rifle and some $$ and you have as much chance as anybody. I made a mistake in last weeks email showing the dates as the 14-15th. I guess I was thinking of my room reservations. Also, if you wish to have input on the future of UBR, there will be a meeting on Friday night. The location is yet to be determined.
See you at the Nationals,
Rick
