The TN State Ultimate Benchrest Championship for 2016 is in the books. The conditions were as good as we ever see at Gallatin and many took advantage of it. We had 36 rifles competing and 16 scores of 500 or better in the Grand Agg. I think that's the best we've ever done. We had five new shooters who had never shot a benchrest match. One of them, Matt Sheppick, shooting a rifle and loads supplied by Chester Bradford, walked away with the Custom Class 1st Place for 100 yards and the Grand Agg edging out Chester by one point. Jr Rigsby tied the existing 100/200 yd Agg in Unlimited with a 514 and Elaine Lockhart, one of our rookies, shot a 513 only one point behind the record. Danny Hensley and Wayne McNeely joined us from the east. Danny took 1st Place in Factory and Wayne went home with a first in Modifed. Eric Leonard finished 3rd in Custom with his first 500+ score (509). At 100 yards in Custom we had 3 shooters only one point behind the winner, including Morris Shankle who shot his best ever. I could go on, but really there are too many to name. It was a very good day for all of us, even those who didn't come home with a win.
I hope as many of you as possible will be joining us this Friday and Saturday (August 12-13) for the UBR Nationals at Buck Creek KY. If yesterday is any indication we should have some great shooting and a lot of good fellowship. Danny says we are already filling the 5th relay with early sign ups. If you are coming and haven't reserved a room in Somerset I will encourage you do so quickly. There aren't many left.
