UBR-TN State Championship 9 7 19

For the first time in three years, we held the TN State Championship at Dry Branch Rifle Range in Dixon Springs TN. This was due to the fact that until this season, no one was shooting UBR in TN since the closing of the TVA range at Gallatin. Of course, we will probably have to discuss next year's match with Kettlefoot as they will have as much right as we do to hold the match. We had the second largest turnout of our brief existence with 37 rifles competing in all classes. We had participants from TN, KY, AL, IN & VA.

The weather was pleasant with a high in the mid 80's and plenty of sunshine. However the conditions were challenging with winds of 5-7 mph swirling and switching with heavy mirage. When you have trouble seeing bullet holes at 100 yards it's safe to say the mirage is tough. In fact, out of 37 rifles there were only two who managed 500 or better, Richard Alford who won Custom Class (503) and Steve Jaynes who took Unlimited (501). Special recognition to Barb Aldridge who won Custom Class 100 meter for her first win. Maybe her success will help us attract more women to our sport. One other note about the conditions, more than one person observed on several occasions the wind flags were all pointed in one direction and the dust from fired shots was going directly opposite to the flags.....go figure.

We hope to see many of you at the UBR Nationals next weekend. They are being held at the Boyle County Fish & Game Club in Junction City KY. There is no limit in shooters, so come on down. The last time I talked to Billy Henson, match director, was two weeks ago and we already had 65 registered. This will definitely be the largest UBR match to date.

Scores are attached along with the winners of classes and yardages.
