To reply to your question, Yes. I asked German Salazar -- the primer guy, amongst other accomplishments -- and he indicated that all the Russian primers available here have the same manufacturer, just differnet packagers.

Some people have had a number of failure-to-fires with the Russian primers. Unlike the girl with a curl, When they're good, they're very very good, but when they're bad, they just sputter.

Edit

As a note, I too use Powder Valley for powder & primers. Good people. Not to say Midway isn't...

This past June I compared Wolf Small Rifle Magnum's along with Federal 205 GM's in a 30br. Same wt bullet and same wt of powder. One five shot group of each at 100 yds was fired out of a lightly fouled bbl. Winds were mild, with temps in the mid-60's, and mostly cloudy.

Ave vel for the Wolf's (Wolves?) was 3124 fps with an es of 14, and sd of 5. For the 205 GM's the ave vel was 3118 fps with an es of 14 and sd of 5. Except for the slight difference in ave vel these results were virtually identical. Granted - it was a small sample, but these are great numbers. More trials might change the results, but this was just a quick test to check what I had already suspected. And that is that the Wolf's (at least this particular lot) in my rifle using this bullet and powder, performed just like the 205's. Chris Mitchell

Chris, Don't kid yourself, those numbers have absolutely no meaning at all. They're not even a sample. They're two random events with no correlation. Try 10, 20, or 30 five-shot groups each for a better picture of what you're looking for.

for those who do not KNOW...

wolf , tulammo ,and pmc primers ARE ALL THE SAME AND COME FROM THE SAME SINGLE PLANT in russia.

primers are excellent tho i have had a size issue with the last batch of large pistol.

the company that makes them, allows a single company to do retail marketing of thier product line....

tula out bid wolf a couple years ago and raised the prices to cover thier higher bid.
i carry tulammo primers in my current product line.

i have had excellent results with these primers..

Morning All,

Abintx - you're absolutely right. That's why whenever I post to this forum I always make sure to state exactly what I did. Additionally I always try to make sure that any reader knows that I'm speaking strictly from my own experience (i.e., "your results may vary.") My results might be a good starting place for someone who'd like to do further testing as you suggested - 10, 20, or 30 five-shot groups. I just do not have the resourses to do so, and in the long run do not think it is necessary. It has been my experience (there he goes again!) with a 30br that it doesn't take exhaustive testing to find something that works very well. That is if the Gremlins leave me the heck alone . . . oh wait . . . that was another thread!:p

Zdog (Chris Mitchell)

+2...........same way I do it.......DON`T WEAR OUT A HUMMER BARREL TESTING.......
