Ok, I am looking at buying a Leupold 36x scope for my benchrest gun. I have the option of getting it with or without the tucker conversion. Do you all think that this conversion makes a noticable difference? Also, does it void the lifetime warranty with leupold?

Jeff, through then years, Leupold has varried their policy on such modifications, since the 36x is no longer in production, I have no idea what the policy is now. If you cracked a lens, which has nothing to do with the conversion, they might fix it.

Something like a broke reticle, since you have to remove it to do the conversion, might be another matter.

They will fix any scope for a cost.

The Tucker conversion is a worthwhile addition, it does fix a problem that supposedly plagued the 36x models, that being the erector tube shifting on the radiused shoulder that allows it to pivot. Cecil adds a o-ring on tube that keeps it from shifting ever so slightly in the radial.

The plunger spring is an afterthought, the flat Factory spring is really adequate. But that is the recognizable feature of a Tucker Conversion. Plus, it makes re-assembling the things a lot easier........jackie

If this is one of the older 36 Leupolds that does not have the locking objective lens the "Tucker Conversion" is even more desireable.

Know someone who sent there Leupold 36x in for repair. I think last Sept./Oct. They said no repair. Send us $300 and you will get a new 45X.

Sent in a sightron with a Hoen fix. They said it was unrepairable but they would replace it. However they didnt have any of that model in stock so I could upgrade for 300. Same same pretty much.
