Trying Benchrest.

After many years away from precision shooting I decided to try benchrest and found out my eyes are not what they used to be. I can't see the target clearly through the scope, I started with a 36x Leupold scope I've had for years and could not see the target at 100 yrds, at 50 yrds I could barely see the target and it was almost impossible to see both X hairs at the same time. I changed to a 36X Weaver and I can see the target and the X hairs but the target is not clear. Is there any type of shooting glasses that might help? I wear bifocal glasses but can't wear them while I shoot.

Thank you.

You could do like I did with my old eyes....have Lasik Surgery.

Like you, I wore bifocals, but could not shoot with them. I never had trouble looking through the scope and seeing my flags, but everything on the bench was always a little blurry.

Looking through a scope should not be a problem because it is one big corrective lens. You should be able to adjust the eyepiece to make the crosshairs sharp, and the focus to see the target clearly.

time for an eye exam.
get your eyes check before you spend any money on shooting gear.
been there done that

There's hope----maybe.

I went several years without rifle shooting.

When I started back, my eyes had changed enough that all my scopes were out of focus.

A little time spent focusing both ends of the scopes got things looking normal again.

Now, many years later, my eyes have changed even more for the worst but the same old scopes can still be focused.

Good luck.

Eye doctor said I have cataracts so I need to shoot around them or have surgery. I think I'm going to try shooting and see how it goes.

Thanks for your help.

Get the cataract surgery, my wife has had both eyes don in the last 24 months and her eye sight is vastly improved! Discuss your shooting hobby with doc because they do have different lenses available! Medicare paid for hers both times and provided one pair of glasses! Good luck, surgery is easy onlytakesacouple of hours and my wife was back driving in 48 hrs!
