this will be for setting up behind the line for 100/200yd benchrest shooting. what do you use? any opinions will help. where to order/price/ect. thanks

Scott,
I use a Slik tripod, it was about $120.00, and I added a Manfrotto, grip adjustable head on it, super easy for anyone to adjust. The Manfrotto head was 90.00 and really worth it. The tripod has really nice foam padding on the legs. I got all of it at a Sportsmans Warehouse which is only out west here, but I am sure you could get them at any quality sporting goods store or Amazon!
Slik 700DX 99.00
Bowen/Manfrotto Joystick head 82.00
Both available on eBay

Scott. I was looking around for months trying to find one myself. One of the guy's who I shoot against up here in Maine recommended a Velbon Sherpa 800R. It is awesome. Very heavy duty and sturdy. I think it was under 200 bucks. Maybe you could check Amazon or E-Bay and see what they are getting for this model.

I use an old photo tripod I've had for many years. For standing, I extend the legs all the way. For sitting, I simply extend only one segment. I do like my Arca style quick release plate and clamp. It makes mounting the scope quick and easy. I have the same kind of plate on all my cameras too. Google Arca mount

These days you can get a suitable photo tripod, complete with QR plate system, for $80 or $100. Check out Amazon.

Or, hit some of your local garage sales and look for a cheap photo tripod and then buy a QR clamp and plate for about $15.

No need to spend more unless you're trying to use the scope from a prone shooting position.

Ewings used to make a nice on.

Looks like Giraud Spotting Scope Stand is pretty similar.

Legs attached to a block of metal and a screw together pole with adapter for the scope.

Tripod is the way to go for Benchrest

Service rifle stands with a single shaft and the support legs at the bottom are not fully stable in the wind. I have a Ray-Vin for service rifle matches, which is one of the best, but I don't use it behind the benchrest line. It will jiggle a bit in a stiff wind, and people intent on watching the action can possibly knock it over. Get the sturdiest tripod you can afford. I got one at a yard sale and one at an estate auction for a guy who was a big camera buff.

i agree. i have a high power stand
weighted and three short legs..
just unstable as can be at standing height.
i think it maybe the same when set up
at 4 ft or so fro sitting.
why i asked

Never had a problem with it.

Even with a 60x on the big Kowa scope.

It did come with nice long fabric/garden staples.

Larger than usual but designed for holding landscaping fabric in place.

About 8 inches long.

Put one over each leg and step on them to drive them tight to the end of each leg.

Best set up i ever had is a Bogen i got off Ebay they are heavy but sturdy. For the head i use a Sinclair off the set up for a bench and i can go back and forth the only thing i had to make was a piece 7/8" i drilled and tap for the top of the Bogen tripod...... jim
