Thinking of building a LV 30br

I am thinking of building a LV gun so I have more options... I'm not a ppc guy. But I love the 30br....

Is anyone shooting a LV 30br? The HV 30br recoil does not bother me. I have heard others say they dont like it, or they cant take it.
If there is anyone that shoots the HV 30br, and the recoil doesn't bother them... do you also shoot a LV 30br?

I'm looking for opinions on if I should go that route or not.

Yes, when I first started Shooting a 30 BR, I built a LV on a Stiller Diamond Back Action, but I made it in 30PPC. This was back when we thought The NBRSA was going to adopt VFS in both LV and HV.

I shot it in a couple of Group Matches, and did OK. When the NBRSA decided to make VFS HV only, I converted it to a 6PPC.

The recoil was a tad aggravating. I was pushing a 112 at close to 2900 fps with 4227.

A 30 BR will give a little more recoil. That's the only "kicker" in your idea, pun intended.

But not unbearable.

Just wanted to shoot some 2 day events

I want to come down to shoot in the Crawfish, but only have a HV, I have to shoot 2 half days.
If I had a LV, I could shot all day both days.

That's all I was thinking.

Yes I have a LV 30 BR I would not change it. This rifle shot very well and recoil was manageable and not to bad. I will defiantly do this again .

Wes, I have a LV 30 improved and it's a handful. I was lucky enough to win the 300 yard portion of the 200-300 Nationals with it this year, so it's a valid option. 250-6X with the LV and 250-5X with the HV

Have had two LV 30BR's. The first was an RFD action in a Bruno/McMillan pattern stock. That stock profile worked nicely as a combo Score/Group stock. Second one was a purpose built LV Group gun with a Panda action and the Kelbly KLP stock. The KLP stock tracked like it was on rails on a Group target. Didn't go around a Score target very well, but that wasn't the intent.

All were bolt ins, not glues ins. Panda actions were fitted with a forward dovetailed recoil lug by Stan Ware @ SGR Custom Rifles. RFD action was extensively rehabbed by Stan and fitted with a more conventional lug, ala' the 700's. Of note, both used HBR (Hunter) taper barrels for better balance and barrel stiffness than the conventional LV barrel taper. Both guns balanced extremely well in the bags. A nose heavy LV 30BR is an evil thing.

When I started in 2016, I shot a LV 30BR that Dave Short loaned me while he was building my own rifle. I shot the LV 30BR for something like 16 aggs, it taught me more than the HV ever could have about what NOT to do with the rifle.

Dave is building me a LV 30BR to compliment my HV, and I have no reservations about shooting it.

The recoil is there, but I don't mind it at all.

This was all with 117gr bullets around 2900fps.

Go for it!

I have a LV 30BR. My 3 bench rifles (HV, LV, Hunter) all have the same stuff; Bat 3 Lug, Kelbly stocks, same height of rings, etc. I tried keeping everything the same so the feel and processes of each rifle would transfer over to the other rifles. I had a LV ppc before I built the LV 30. I do not shoot a lot of group, but I could shoot the 2nd, 3rd, etc shots faster with the ppc than I can with the 30. Recoil is more, bag movement is more, but accuracy/precision is the same. If you shoot Hunter class at all - you will be used to the recoil and bag movement.

Most of my shooting is Score. What I have found to be the best thing about my LV 30 BR is that it is a great practice gun. I get the bag handling technique reps (what Josh wrote about) at the same time I am getting the reps of bullet movement that will transfer over to my HV and Hunter rifles.

Another added bonus to this set up I have one powder, 2 bullets, same primers, and same seating die (I just change the tops). I could probably get by with 1 sizing die - but I have one set for each barrel and just switch them out. That makes things a little easier when packing/traveling to matches.

As always (well...most always :)......) Nyhus is correct with the Hunter taper barrel. Wish I would have done that.

I think the biggest question you need to answer is; does recoil bother me? If no - then go for it.

Hope this helps

And recoil doesn't bother me. I think I am headed down that road. I will probably start looking for a used set up to use while I spend the 18 months getting one built.

Shortly after I had a shoulder replacement I started shooting a Hunter gun in 30 X 47 @ >3000 FPS free recoil. It is kind of like dancing with a fat chick....just something you gotta get used to.

ouch

I had one, kicked like a mule, not fun to shoot. I soon sold it, was a great day at my house.
