The start/run switch on my Jet 12/36 went sour on me the other day, it is the one on the back side of the motor, anyone know where I might get one?

I have a 12-36 , It ate swwitches when it was wired 120V. Still ate
switches when wired 220v. I replaced the whole thing with a rotary
switch from Square D company. This required some linkage changes,
but has worked for 12 plus years

I had to chuckle when I read this. I have a 1961 Southbend 16" ToolRoom lathe that came from Southbend with a Square-D rotary switch on it and its never faltered once. Also, if my memory is correct, it has replaceable switch contacts if the need arises. Actually, I believe these are called a "drum" switch...

That Square-D switch I have gets more abuse than any other in the shop as its so easy to use it to control spindle braking and instant reversing with it as well as jogging the spindle even though the lathe was never designed for braking and spindle jogging. That's far more abuse than the switch on the Bridgeport gets as the 16" lathe spindle with a chuck on it weighs several hundred pounds as compared to a much smaller and lighter spindle load in a Bridgeport...

I also have a newer (1978) 13" Southbend that has a electro-magnetic three pushbutton control system and so far its eaten one relay transformer and is no where near as easy to use when spindle reversing as in running a tap with the tailstock... Give me the Square-D rotary or drum switch anyday...

I highly recommend Bob's suggested conversion if possible.
