Suhl Conversion

A number of years ago I purchased a Suhl .22 benchrest rifle from a Jim Williams, who I believe lived in/near Atlanta. I had talked to him about possibly putting another together as a silhouette rifle with a thumbhole stock (McMilliian?) and cutting the barrel back to make weight. Nothing came of it at the time, but I was thinking of taking the benchrest rifle and having it reworked to silhouette standards. Unfortunately, I found out Mr Williams has passed. I am looking for recommendations for a gunsmith who is familiar with Suhls and could handle the conversion. I do remember Jim telling me that the barrel was choked so it was not a matter of cutting off and recrowning, it was a matter of cutting the rear portion off and putting the rifle back together.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Jim is alive & well!

Jim `s cell phone # 770-757-1590,he has been selling his stuff on here for a year or two , He lives in Grayson ,Ga (Snellville-Stone Mt.area due east of Atlanta ) He is about 81,but still kicking! Doyle Anglin and Tim McWhorter were his gunsmiths when he had William`s Precision going ; both have shops of their own now ,Doyle operates as Dixie Guns in Winder Ga (706-654-8400) and Tim operates as McWhorter Custom Rifles in Doerun ,Ga, Both worked for Jim when Jim was the Suhl guy here in the US

Really glad to hear that Jim is still with us. Very nice guy! I bought a couple of (old stock) NIB 40X's from him years ago. Great guy to deal with.

Wayne Smith in Pinehurst Ga is about as familiar with Suhl's as anyone on the planet.

Thank You!! I got the info I had from someone in my shooting club who had tried to reach him about a year or so ago and was told he was no longer with us. This is great news! I'll call him this morning! Thanks again!!!!
