I'm new to reloading and am looking for a starting point for reloading a Savage 10FP .308. Would like to hear of any successful/accurate loads and see if I can reproduce it.

Looking for details on bullets, weight, powder, powder type, etc...

Thanks!

What brass do you plan to use? I have great luck with Winny brass, 168 SMK, Fed 210M primers, and 44.0 gr of Varget my Remmy 700. In my Savage I shoot Laupa brass, 210Ms, 175 SMK, and 44.5 gr of RE-15. These are both on the warm end and work up slowly in your gun. I recommend the 175 SMK over the 168s. The Berger 185 VLDs also shoot outstanding in my Savage but can be picky to tune. We worked up a loads with my friends Savage with a Shilen 308W barrel using 175 Berger VLDs and IMR4064. Also an excellent combination. The 308W is a round that will handle a lot of powders. Luck, Tim

I agree with Dr.Tim,

The cartridge is inherently accurate................ Though Savage 30 cal barrels can be a bit hit or miss have seen several awesome tack drivers and some that couldn't hold 1 MOA...... Hope yours is a shooter...!

Want a little less recoil.... >>>>>>>TRY<<<<<<< the Sierra 135gr MK............ DAMN fine bullet..!!! No worries on twist rate...
My 17 twist 30BR will shoot these to sub 1/4 MOA....... Right there with custom shorty 30's in VFS shoots...!

Lotta powders to play with, 4895 and H BLC-2 come to mind... Have fun.

I'm going to start using Lapua brass and Varget powder based on recommendations I've gotten. Just not sure about using magnum primers (cci 450)? Heard both ways and undecided.

I think I'll start with Nosler BT's in 180gr first and see how that works. I'm definately open to suggestions however.

Thanks

lapua brass, H4895 powder, 165 or 168 gr Sierra bullets, fed 210 primer, about .002-.005 off of seated with the bolt and I think you'll be pleased,,

Mine liked 2 loads, both with the Sierra 175gr MK.

1. CCI 200 primers, 41.5grs H4895, seated .040 from rifling

2. Fed 210M primers, 42grs IMR4064, Jammed .010. This was the most consistent load.

All cases were FL sized.

A buddy also full length sizes his brass but doesn't this negate the benefits of form fired brass from that specific gun?

I just use whichever method of sizing that rifle prefers. Getting too stuck on one idea can be a bad thing when it comes to making progress.

It doesn't matter to me what primer, powder, bullet, seating depth, or case prep it takes to get it, if small groups don't appear at some point, that rifle goes down the road.

so many but....

Lapua Brass
Fed GM210M primer
49.5 gr. VV N550
Lapua Scenar 155 SJ .015 jump

Thanks for the info. Have you found that the jump has much of an effect? How about using Benchrest Primers?

Additionally, a buddy just gave me about 400 rds of Winchester Brass for free and I'm curious if it will make much difference if I buy Lapua Brass? Do you think it's worth it?
