My sons savage #11 has a stuck cartridge (live round) and I need some help as to the safest way to get it out?

Not knowing the exact details on how the cartridge is stuck, if you do a search for:"stuck cartridge," there is a thread here about it, with several different methods of removal, depending on how the cartridge is stuck in the barrel.

Hope this helps.

Take it to a competent gunsmith is my first suggestion. If you simply cannot get the bolt closed and fire the round I think the rifle will have to be disassembled and the action screwed off the barrel. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE IT OUT FROM MUZZLE people have been killed this way.

can you open the bolt?
if not then lightly tap it with a block of wood
to see if it will open..

Bolt is open and out. he tried to chamber a round for my rem. 308 and when he couldn't get the bolt fully closed he give it to me.

I'd follow Dick Grosbier's advice if I was able.
I saw a few rifles with stuck cartridges come into the shop, and gunsmiths have several different ways to remove them.
The idea of a rod down the barrel always gave me the willies......

take my advice--keep your ammo labled....what cal. is the rifle..?

.308 what will a gunsmith do with it, I have had the barrel off before, is there some neat tool that will pop it out or is he just going to grab it and pull........
I have in the past, looked for a smith here on long island and none to be found.

)chill( put some oil down the barrel and let it set a few hours, and a dowell and tap that baby out of there..:p

here goes nothing

well I'm the type of gut that will try anything once. I have been looking around on the web and WD-40 down the barrel and let it sit for a few days, then a 1/4 wood dowel and give it a whack. If I'm not back posting on sunday we all know why.

thanks
Bill

Try giving it a press before giving it a whack if you will :)

Think 'post puller' with a strap to grab the barrel and a steel lever to press on the dowel.

And Dick's idea is sound. I'd grind a 1/2" gouge chisel or even modify a cheap screwdriver. A large screwdriver or small prybar from Ye Olde Chicom HF Toole Barne can't be but 3-4 clams........

rem/age ????

pulled the barrel and it came right out, but I did order the slide hammer/ stuck cartridge remover from Brownell (backordered)

BTW anyone using the Rem/age system on a Remington 700 action?
