Stock mod. question

I have a short range Benchrest rifle that is glued in. The stock a tiny butt that is not, in my opinion, designed for higher recoiling cartridges (than a 6PPC), at least at the rifle's current 10.5# weight. What would be wrong with fitting it with a butt plate that sticks out past the stock to what ever dimension is desirable from a functional point of view. Ok, I know that it would look different, perhaps to many eyes ugly. I can live with that. What I want to know is if anyone has reason to think that it would not work. I am thinking 30 BR or perhaps a longer barrel in a 600 yd caliber like the 6 x 47. (My action has a universal bolt face.)

I'd do it.

Figure out a way to install it so you can take it off easily.
If you really like it and want the rifle to be pretty you could build up the stock to match the butt plate contour and re-paint.
Or if you don't like it take it off and its a LV rifle again.

I've used velcro on one of mine. Change out buttplates like changing your socks..... peel off and put on another.
