Some Sniper King history

Sniper King History

The Sniper King trophy was created in 1944, and is the oldest trophy in Benchrest shooting. It is awarded for firing the smallest 10 shot group at 200 yards. In the very early years it may have been some what different, but for the last 50 years it had been 10 shots at 200 yards. Any NBRSA class rifle may be used, so UNL rifles rule!

It usually takes a group some where in the mid to upper .2 range to win it. If I remember right, the smallest group to win it is a .249" fired by the late and great Del Bishop.

This coming 4th of July weekend it will be again contested. The will be three 200 yard aggs. fired, so there are 15 chances to win it. Some years back a second award was created called the Agg. King. It is awarded for the best 10 shot/5 group agg. at 200 yards. Only three chances to win it, so harder to win than the Sniper King trophy.
