Some shooting does pay!

yeah well you could get called up too
what is a 12t, just how old is this guy ?

I think that Keith is in his lower 40s. I can't blame him a bit. Military pay, benefits, and free shooting equipment and supplies. Being a reserve I imagine he will keep his civilian job. A great deal for him. My point is the non military shooters are amateurs and shooting out of their own pocket.

12T is a Technical Engineer. They are similar to a civil engineer in civilian life. The interesting part is what's his pay grade.

BTW, it's possible to be a member of the AMU and not be or were you ever a soldier. Back in the day you had to be a soldier first and a shooter second. Then the IOC let pro athletes participate in the olympics and the military went to hired guns.

And my point is that military service is a steep price to pay :)

I thank those who serve......as much as I detest war, as long as it exists (forever) I GIVE THANKS TO ALL WHO SERVE!

In any capacity.

yes the military has been active in enlisting active (great) shooters in the schools.
he seems to be a much older exception, good for him.

Maybe they need a recruiting office in Morgantown, WV. WVU has won 18 NCAA championships and the last 4 in a row. They are the #1 rated school this year. Their freshman "Ginny Thrasher" won a Gold in this years Olympics.
According to the posted US Military law below is the maximum age for entering the service.
Army Reserves - 35
Army National Guard - 35
Air Force Reserve - 34
Air National Guard - 40
Naval Reserves - 39
Marine Corps Reserve - 29
Coast Guard Reserves - Age 39
I guess that the Military rifle teams are exempt from this.

It depends on whether he's prior service. Re-Enlistment can be as high as 59, depending on years of prior service. Each branch has their individual limits but the point is the limits are higher for prior service.

You are right, the military marksmanship units have their own rules. Throw USA Shooting into the mix and it's hard to tell who's paying the bills.

You have to be able to do 20 good years by age 60. Having shot for both USAR and NJARNG as a reserve shooter for service rifle, the most we got was at the National Matches, were housing, travel, and food where paid for. We got equipment, rifles and ammo supplied. It enabled a lot of good shooters to compete who wouldn't have been able to otherwise. We shoot in the service class, not civilian. Not much difference between us and the shooters with corporate sponsorship.

I do know you can only stay on the Marine Corps team a short time and you have to go back to your MOS. .... jim
