Sierra 95 HPBT in 1 in 10

Sierra says a 1n10 will do.

I hope so,I just bought 500 of em.

Now that were talkn bout it, maybe I should try em out.

I'll get back with you on this one & let you know how it goes.

I have been shooting a few of them in a 6Rem 1 in 8 and a 1 in 10 Cooper without the accuracy the rifles are normally capable of. I assume I just haven't tried hard enough yet. On the plus side the 6 Rem 28" Hart is getting 3350 ft/secs.
 
They stabilized in the 1n10 I just tried em in.

They went through the target straight anyway. No keyholes.

Problem is, they didnt group well at all.

This rifle shoots 1/4 moa with 90gr bergers & lapua scenars but these were all over the place.

I mean like a 2.5" group @ 100 yards.

I did keep 4 of em at 1.250".

I'm not giving up on them yet but it didnt look good for my rifle.

Its deer season here & I didnt send my application in for the lottery again this year so I'm thinken about getten up & makin some noise in the morning.

I'll see what I can do with this mess tomarrow & try to get some good results. I will let you know what happens.

BTW: the box says for 1n9 or faster!

Jay, I also have had excellent luck with the 90 Berger BT, and the 80 gr FB Match, awesome infact, Not so the Sierra 95 ??? Little better than your results, but not yet anything to write home about.
 
When the 95 first came out I tried them in a couple of 6BR's that were shooting very well and couldn't get them to group.If you go to 6mmbr.com I think JB1000 got them shooting in his guns but none of mine like them.

I think the 1n10 is a little to slow.

I shot it again today up to 3100fps & never did any good with it,1.250" best @ 100 yd. This is a factory varmint rifle "Winchester 70 heavy varmint" but its always shot under .300".

Just to test the stability issue I shot a group @ 200yd, not expecting to see a bullet on paper, & got a 2.5" group. It was dead calm when I shot that group.

I got out my BR rifle (6 Dasher 1n8" Krieger) & shot several .500" groups @ 200yd. This barrel has 800 rds on it & the throat is set for 108 BIB's so I'm not convinced that they are all that bad, they just need to be tested with a good 1n9" barrel.

At least now I know they wont work in the rifle I bought them for & will get some scenars for it soon. Special thanks to this thread for motivating me to try them out now.
 
Thanks for the replies. I have since talked to two Sierra reps. Both said at least a nine twist. I tried the Berger 95 VLD with terrible results. The 88 FB Match shoots very well in my gun. Later! Frank
 
Tried the various 95 gr VLDs in my 6mm Rem AI. At lower velocities they were either unstable or very inaccurate. Loaded up towards the hot end of the range they started shooting pretty nicely. This all indicates to me that the stability out of a 1-10 is very marginal. Yeah, adding velocity just brought things under control, but faster twist is the better solution, a 1-9 or even a 1-9.5 (might make it).

Yep, they showed some promise in my 8.5tw 6BR (8 out of 10 shots knotted up under 3" IIRC) That info is on the AccurateShooter.com bulletin from awhile back.

I also was one of the few to shoot the 95gn experimental lot thru a 10 twist.

My Tikka 243 (at 3090fps) shot them straight-on at 100 and 1000yds (800ft ASL). It was a 10 twist (tested it to verify).
