Shilen "Ratchet Rifling?"

Tom,
If you get a good barrel, you get a good barrel. The 2 ratchets that I had were good. They operate on the same principle as the 5R type rifling.

I have a Shilen ratchet land barrel in 6ppc. Shoots about as good as any barrel I have had. Probably do a lot better in the hands of someone who could read the wind. It does seem to clean up very easy. And I believe it just might have a bit longer life than the average 6ppc barrel.

If you know what standard rifling looks like, then you can see the differance. Ratchet rifled barrels are the same quality as standard.

I got a Shilen ratchet rifle, and boy did I get a good one! The one I got is a flat out hummer! Mine is chambered in 6x47 lapua, and is 29 inch long, #7 contour on a Savage long action. The gun is easy to tune, clean and shoots great from 100 to 1000 yards. It is one of my favorite barrels. When it goes bad it will be replaced with another.
