Some rain before things kicked off at Seymour today. Switchy west Texas winds
Made for a challenging Match.

Glenn, missed you at Seymour. Hospitality wise one of the best matches to attend in the Gulf Coast region. Just about everyone got together last night for dinner at the steak house on the south side of Seymour. Fun time by all in spite of typical Seymour winds for shooting.

2016 Texas State Unlimited

I haven’t been to Seymour in at least 2 years. For some reason or another I couldn’t make it, but I am glad I could make it this time. We faced unusually cool weather for Texas this time of the year and we all knew we weren’t going to have easy weather on Saturday at least.

The range provided a very nice breakfast and lunch for the shooters. I didn’t know this and I stopped at a café before coming to the range. I actually drove from Dallas early Saturday morning. It was 3 1/2 hours of driving.

It was good to see old hardcore BR Unlimited shooters, but also a few new faces. I hope to see more new shooters in the near future.

Unlimited means 10 shots in a one hole group right? It wasn’t so on Saturday for most of us except Sir. Charles Huckeba and a few others. We could run the match without a moving backer. If you see the pics you will understand. Competitor # 121 is one of Sir. Charles Huckeba’s targets. I asked him “what are you looking for to determine conditions?” He said “I watch the wind flags.” I guess most of us weren’t watching wind flags the same way he does. I’m sure his wind flags are not just for decoration. Mine sure are.

Big thank you to John Horn and Scott Hunter for conducting the competition. I always enjoy the Seymour shoot. Oh by the way, all shooters were invited to a Texas steak dinner after the Unlimited competition. I couldn’t miss it, I like sushi but steak too. Texas steak comforted the shooters very well, especially those of us who shot big groups. I left after the steak dinner. I wish I could shoot HV but I had other plans for Sunday.

For the people that have not shot in Seymour. You will not shoot at a range that nothing to effect the wind except 1 strand of barb wire along bench #1. A completely neutral range. It is a well run match with great food and drink. All phases of the match are top notch.

Mike has been very

tough at every match I have been to. Always right at the top of the page.
Good job Mike!!

Are you going to the Best of the West?

See-more

If you ask me…I know you didn’t, The word Hospitality may have been born right there in the small town of Seymour,Tx.

John Horn,Scott Hunter,Kami and Trae Reed, and the range crew,do a tremendous job of making your weekend of BR shooting an enjoyable one.

Every Range is honest, until the wind blows. At Seymour, you will sometimes get what I call, tree bending, grass plucking, winds that are very difficult to figure out. Once in a while ,a dust devil will move across the range in front of the shooters to make things more interesting.

I missed the fun this time. I don’t intend to make that a habit.

The best Steak I’ve ever had, was at Seymour,Tx at the Last Straw Restaurant(No longer in business). I heard a rumor that, the owner raised his own Cattle and fed them a special diet. I don’t know how true this story is, but the Steaks sure tasted great.

If you want to test your Benchrest shooting skills, against some of the best in Texas, put this match on your list of things to do.

Thanks, Richard, planning on it. Haven't reserved a camping spot yet. Guess I need to get that done. Think if we would have had one more group at 200 Charles would have passed me by. He's a tough competitor anytime, but when he's behind his rail gun especially tough. Was shooting next to him at a Phoenix nationals several years ago. I'd be thinking I'd done pretty good shooting a .5 at 200. I'd dial over to his target and he'd have a .3. Very tough competitor.

Cool video Jackie, explains why I am having to take my wind probes to physical therapy three times a week now and hope they recover enough to use them again in time for the Texas Shoot out! It was wild but fun! And I learned a few new words Saturday too! ;-)

Larry is going to have to put new cups on his probes after I was watching them slap the ground on the left side then slap the ground in the right side.

Thanks Jackie. That's a stark reminder of what conditions can be like at Seymour. Lets face it, Benchrest without the wind and mirage, would probably get boring ,real fast.

All we need at Seymour is for the CEO Of Super 8 Motels to stop by for a weekend of lodging and fun.:D
