Scoville barrel block stock

Anyone here shooting a scoville barrel block stock? if so what info can you provide about them? Does it work, or are they a pain in the neck? I am on the lookout for one and i want to do a little homework here. Also i hate to say this here but if anyone has or knows of a scoville stock. block stock or regular. please let me know.
With the block stocks, how does the contour of the barrel effect the way it mounts up? Are the clamps adjustable in any way? Info like this is what i am after. I may do like my good friend Jay did and have a completely different block made anyway. just not sure. I first need to find one and that may prove to be a real challenge. I did find one in Canada but i drug my feet to long and it doesnt look like its going to work out for me. just my luck! Have a great week fellas! Lee

Lee, I think a barrel block has a lot of merit, but there are 2 things against you, in short range. One is the weight factor and the other is it can't be any farther than 4" from the bolt face. If you're doing a HV, you have some breathing room. If I recall, the block that first came out was very skelotonized, for a LV. I would think the contour would have to be kept at a given diameter for the length of the tenon and block, and that probably isn't too hard to do.

I know Dave Bruno had one at his shop several months ago. I'm sure he would be a good one to talk to about them.

Lee,

I have owned five Barrel Block stocks over the years. The design by Bob has evolved quite a bit and some options are not longer available. The last I talked to Bob, he no longer did the weight system under the stocks. This is a bummer as I thought it was one of the best qualities. The internal block as it is now made has four adjustment screws that make up the points in the stock, the rings on top clamp the barrel down to them. This offers flexibility to mount the barrel how you want it or adjust to different shank contours. On the other side, this complicates the mounting process. There is simple way to align the barrel in the stock. I have my barrel shanks turned to a specific diameter, which makes mounting barrels simple after the first alignment. One thing that Larry Scharnhorst does which I highly recommend, is to have the shanks bead blasted for better grip so you can run less torque on the screws. I will say however, that I have torqued mine as absolutely tight as I could get them with a allen wrench (I would estimate around 50-60 ft lbs) and could feel the restriction in the bore when cleaning. But while doing that, my Bat/Barrel Block racked up about thirty pieces of wood in one year. Wish I hadn't sold it. Larry runs his as light as 28 inch pounds I believe and has also used different materials between the rings and barrrel. He has probably been the most successful with the block guns. He did have a barrel slip while leading at St. Louis one time and it cost him.

Back to the block. The block internal to the stock is in a "H" form. Bob felt (and I think rightfully so) that the initital stocks were a little weak at the junction between block/stock. This has been corrected but also makes the weight a little heavier. The one I have now, has to have the barrel weight under 5 lbs, with a Comp 45X.

The unique thing about the blocks, with the action being floated, it acts as a dampener/tuner on the other end. Also important is the distance between the block points since it is not a solid block. Computer models by a friend of Tom Dixon's and my brother has shown the Tom's and Bob's distance is as near to perfect as could be done. This was actually stumbled upon by accident due to the rules.

Does any of this make them shoot better, who knows. But whoever I sold my Bat/Black Scoville barrel block & the BAT/Black Scoville too, please contact me.

Well i finally found one. I hope to have it in a day or so. I need a contact number for scoville, if someone can help me out there. I need to know about mounting up barrels now. I assume i will have to turn the barrel shank for a preset diameter. I am thinking 30mm?? I just dont really know. Anyway if anyone here has or has had please give me a phone call. Knowledge is my friend. Thanks Lee 217 246 0787

I also need a phone number for Jewell triggers, I will need to buy a different trigger for my BAt B. I think i need the trigger shoe that is longer in lenght than the normal shoe. Anyone have that number? I did a google search but didnt find much. Thanks again. Lee

I just hope it works as good as it looks. Sure doesnt look like much there to hold a barrel in under recoil. we shall see!! Lee
