scope--type/power

Setting up a 6mm 6-1000 rifle and would like some advice as to what would be the most useful scope for the regimen. I had looked at the last major matches equipt list and there is a wide range of scopes used. Ya know I want a March and can afford a Sightron. Im probably sold on a 8-32, good range of adjustment and a wide range of magnification(I realize I can't use it all the time). Ive fired a few 600yd matches with limited success using a 4-16power(Meopta) and felt under most circumstances Id prefer a couple more power. This included winning a few matches, but not consistently. SS makes a 6-24, but I wonder if the lower top magnification would be lacking at 1K. The 8-32 would offer more flexibility. Any best answers here.?

Nightforce 8x32 is the best choice if you can make weight. The 8x32 Sightron has really good optics but not sure of dependability.

Sort of ditto, except I'd get the 12-45 NF or the 20-50x60 Sightron (have one). I never knew anyone who coudn't use the extra magnification from time to time. Nor knew anyone who needed the extra bit of MOA adjustment offered by the 8x32.

The Sightrons are new enough we don't have too good reliability data on maintaining POI. That said, I believe they are a bit lighter than the NF; the 10-50 comes in right at 29 ounces. I absolutely hate the side mount parallax adjustment. You'd need a 6-inch wheel to get precise control. Fortunately, once you get it adjusted for a distance, you can leave it set.

Cheap way is to just get a 24X Weaver. Used one for years, to make weight on a couple of my heavier LGs.
 
My vote is the Nightforce 12x42 with the double dot. And Charles if you leave your Parallax set for 1k and don't change it when the conditions change you may really be making a BOO- BOO. My eyes aren't the greatest anymore, but I know when the Parallax needs changing. This may open another can of worms HA HA,

stick with name brands, figure with most you will need a xxmoa base to get on target at 1k.
i like 30 mm tubes.
get the best you can afford...or wiat till you have more bucks...
4-16power(Meopta) is not a bad scope...
i vote for saving and waiting and getting a nightforce or a march.....

i bought a luepold 8.5-25x 30mm tube at a killer price, but ended up spending another 170 for a BULSEYEPRO multiplier....its a 3x which means 1.3 of original or so.
my 8.5-25 became a 11-32 or so. i feel ok at 1k.

Don't know where Nat is getting his durability data, the III series 10-50x60 Sightron is new enough it is hard to imagine there is much on it. But I did get one, and so far, it has performed flawlessly on a .22 RF and a .300 Ackley HG. With the .22RF, I can comfortably quarter the 50 yard x-dot.

Of the Nightforce 12-42, Sightron 10-50 and Leupold Competiton 45X scopes I own, my favorite generally is the Leupold. One of these days I'll stop worrying about mirage & just put it on a LG. I've used several Weaver 24X & 36X fixed power scopes with no complaints over the years. I should know better than to worry about the 45X.

I'm told the mirage at Bridgeville can get terrible. If that's true, anything that works at one of their sunnier 600 yard matches should be as bad as it gets. I imagine you shoot 600 yard there.
 
Yes to Bridgeville, only in colder months. Id love to get one of the upper line scopes, but to wait til I can afford one means I aint gonna shoot for a while, gotta budget my eyes and age. I did a search on scope power; brands and usually get nothing, but this got lots of replies on power and good reviews on Sightron, incl 8-32. So in keeping with the budget the Sightron gives me good glass, and $ for 1000 Bergers, 1 or 2K primers and 8# of smoke generator. And still a few $ ahead of the NF. Hope to get the puppy ready for the first match @ Bridgeville.
 
watch classifieds i just bought a nf bench with xhigh nf rings for 1200 delivered.i sold the rings for 165,already had a set this is 2011 scope net cost 1035.00 just keep looking.this was 6br site
