scope repairs

I have a Simmons 24x44 Gold Medal Slhouette that needs repair . Adjustments no longer work . After reading Simmons repair policy of replacing your scope with a new one if not covered under warranty , I am somewhat questioning sending it to them . Because as far as I know they no longer make this scope and to my knowledge make nothing comparable in quality . I do not want a cheapo as a replacement . This scope is very compareable to Weaver comp optics and hate to trash it . Is there anyone here who can recomend someone fixing scopes and does a good job ? Thank you , Kenneth

Ken,
I don't mean to be funny, cruel or sarcastic but you will get no competent scope repair shop to touch a Simmons scope imho. You had better just send to Simmons. Good luck. --Greg
 
There is a place in the Miami, Florida area that might work on it, I'm not sure. Google scope repair

Remember that deer I missed years ago standing quartering away? Simmons scope!! By the time he mails it both ways he's exceeded the value of the thing. I gave mine to Bob Burns.
 
I have somewhere a Simmons binoculars I got many years back. I tried to use it goose hunting. To be able to wiew the geese in the scope I had to find them first with my own eyes. That was eazier than finding them with the scope.
Need I say more ?

No quarrel from me but the lad loves his scope :)

The early-mid '90's Simmons Gold Medal series scopes were very high quality. They made a straight 12X, 24X, 36X and a 6-24...maybe a few other powers, but these are the ones I've seen or owned. At one time in their production, they were called the Presidential series. I still have one straight 12X Gold Medal with 1/8" clicks and a fine crosshair. I'll cruise eBay once in a while and snag the occasional one.

In the mid-late '90's. Simmons stopped selling high end scopes and moved into the Junk-a-nese waters, where they remain mired to this day.

I stand corrected. All the Simmons' I've seen were poor. I bought some 'good' ones in the mid nineties, or so I thought........I've since sold mine and I wasn't aware they'd ever made a quality product.

Al would know a good scope from a bad one.

If you have ever had a scope apart, you would understand why they would just send you a new one. It is simply cheaper.........jackie
 
Thanks Al Nyhus , I will try them and the scope repair search . I wouldn't mount a common simmons on mine either , but this would qualify as good glass . I own several Luepolds , Bushnell elites and some lymans , this scope has good glass . I do wonder about the quality of the windage and elevation mechanics , but then I don't know how the previous owner treated it . Thank you all , Kenneth
