Not to many stores stock competition scopes except for Benchrest specialty shops.

Dont know where your going in NY it's a big state! But my distributor is showing a FX3 6X42mm target dot. I'm in the lower Adirondack park. If this is the one you want and you could pick it up, I'd call the distributor and check for availability.

This probably the biggest one:

www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...p&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t&Go.x=20&Go.y=8&Go=submit

They're closed on Saturdays and holidays as listed on their website.

Note that their prices are not better than other mail-order sources, and they don't keep these scopes in stock. It takes 1 to 2 weeks for them to receive the product. NYC is probably not the best area in the US to shop for these products, and these are not the easiest people to do business with. If you have friends in this country, you can find what you want from the websites of more typical sources, and have your contact place an order for you before your trip. If you need a particular reticle, it will probably need to be special ordered unless it is listed in the dealer's inventory; you will probably need to plan on a 2-month lead-time in such an eventuality.

Yes Winchester 69 I agree, but they haven't in stock. Must order (2 weeks of waiting) and the payment from Italy is very complex. I'll be in NY city for 2 weeks and then I can't order it on site. I risk that the date of my departure is not the scope arrived
ps
thank you all for helping me, and sorry for my bad language
ciao

If you can find it in stock someplace in the US, you can have it in less than a week after your arrival here. You might ask here where to search online. I'm suggesting that you perhaps use a money order and overnight postage, and 2-day delivery to complete your transaction. This way you avoid international credit-clearance problems if they exist.

When you have located your scope, you can make pre-arrangements with your supplier by e-mail. I presume that you wish to complete the transaction here, as some suppliers do handle international orders. There may be others on the forum who can provide better information than myself. I see your first step as locating a US supplier who has what you want in stock.

Here you go:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-fx-3-6x42mm-rifle-scope.html
Buy it online and have it shipped to your hotel. It'll be there when you arrive, make sure it requires a signature. Contact your hotel to let them know to expect your delivery. You should be able to tract it right to the front desk. :)
Best not to make things more difficult then they need to be!

Thank you all for your help.
I made a mistake in the first post,(I must study much more:eek:) I will not be in NY next month, but next week, so I do not have much time. I haven't friends in NY, but I think that I will contact Opticalplanet and check that it's possible send to the hotel.
thanks a lot

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Obviously you are flying and U.S. law says you must have export papers to take a scope out of the U.S. You will be subject to security leaving U.S and odds are between xray and baggage searches you will get caught. You will then be eligible for federal charges and loose the scope and be banned from entering the states again. I am pretty sure there is a licensed european scope distributer who can legally supply you with that scope. The crossing between Canada and the U.S. has seen a lot of state side crossing searches since the anti gun government got elected. Obama and Clinton are quite serious about keeping the U.N. mandate to disarm all law abiding citizens world wide.

I am sue they DON'T x-ray checked luggage..only carry-on luggage..;)

What?! it's illegal?!?
I thought that a scope is not tactical, but sports was possible to buy without problems.
I will ask more information to the police to the airport, and if it is not legal of course not buy anything.
@ Tony
the Leupold you can buy it in Italy, but its price is $ 890! Incredible price for me.
thanks for the precious information

All rifle scopes and mounts are controlled items by the US State Department and require import/export paperwork in advance which may take up to two months to get. Just about everything to do with gun parts fall into that controlled item paperwork...

It isn't new, it's been that way for quite a while. The US is cutting down on supplying terrorists...

The police at the airport most likely will not know squat about this... it is the US State Department you want to contact.

I am a travel agent for AAA travel and answer this type of question for a living and I guarantee you that checked luggage gets x-rayed.

It also gets ran past K-9 noses and thru the electronic "NBC sniffers"(dont know what they really call them but they are the machines that can detect chemicals thru what ever means(nuclear/chemical/biological type stuff).

Anyway, It is very normal for people to travel and buy optics(cameras..binos...ect..ect and gems/jewelry and electronics abroad. Especially, Japan for electronics CHEAP. Generally, you do have to declare it while going through customs and pay "duty" on this stuff. Have the receipt handy for sure. Otherwise they can seize it and KEEP IT.

You could contact US Customs and they would know for sure if you can buy a scope here and take it back with you but unless there is something special about it or it is catagorized differently, I would think you would have no issues at all. People do this globally every day. Diamonds and jewelry from St Thomas, Electronics from Asia, Tequilla from Mexico. Crystal from Ireland..ect...ect. Happens every day

Tony G and Dennis S

are RIGHT in what they say.

Save your time in doing research as to whether or not you can do it. Bottom line is it is a NO NO.

I would hate to see your trip to the US ruined.
