I currently have a Leupold VX3 8.5-25x50 scope, and I am looking to get more serious into competition shooting - mostly F-Class and Benchrest out to 1000yd. Is it worthwhile spending the extra cash on upgrading to a Nightforce scope? How does the VX3 compare in the benchrest competition world?

it was a helpful suggestion ...a lot more than your bs......no positive comment from you at all......

he asked about two types of shooting and ask on neither of the forums where they exist......competion br and f class.....

when was the last time you saw a winning br rifle with a 25x scope on it ????

i shoot 1000 yd br with a 8.5-25, 30 mm tube because that fit my budget..i have added a 3x multipier that moves it into the low 30x range.

you are an embarassment to real texans

Hi Quinny I use a Leupold Mark 1V 8 1/2- 25 for 1,000 yds and it is adequate ( a great long range praire-dog scope though) I am going to get a Night Force variable with 42X. I shoot short and long range Bench Rest (notice the capital letters). I tried the 8 1/2x25 at 200 yds Sunday. No good, couldn't see the bullet holes or the target very well, partly due to mirage. The 45 Leupold worked good. I notice a lot of 1,000 yd shooters use the Night Force. My vision is not the best so I like lots of magnification. Can be a problem if there is much mirage. With the varialbe power you can always turn down the magnification. Buy quality and you will enjoy it. Have fun, please excuse some of the alley cat fighting. Don

Here is my take on this. Take it for what its worth.
I have both a Leupold 45x comp, and a NF 42. I like the Leupold, as it ergonomics are second to none. The Leupold is a very attractive scope, as well. Lower profile and sleek. However my NF does have better glass, and this is how i know so. I was shooting out on my farm a few weeks back. I was shooting just 200 yards, but the sun was on its way down, and shinning in my face. This doesn't make for an ideal situation while trying to look through a scope. Mirage was bad. Actually real bad. I was shooting prone with two different rifles. One with the NiteForce, and the other rifle had the Leupold 45x. I had a real hard time shooting the rifle with the Leupold, but the rifle with the NF was much easier. I simply had a hard time seeing the target with the sun the way it was through the Leupold. Now with this said, and under ideal conditions, i like my Leupold best. I personally think the NF has better glass, or better whatever, but i do like the Leupold a little more. I hate having my parallax adjustment up front on the bell, like the NF has. I think that is a real set back, especially for f-class. You would have to come complexly out of position to make an adjustment on the NF, while the parallax is right were it needs to be on the Leupold.Again this is Just my take, and experience. It isnt worth much but it didn't cost you anything either! Lee

Thanks for the replies. My apologies if this is the wrong section/forum. I have been chatting with a few F-Class guys as well, just trying to get as much info as I can before investing a quite significant amount of money.

quinny...
its not so much "wrong" as there are better, specific forums.
good luck
