I have a Schlutz and Larsen Model 70 22lr that fires just fine with cheaper ammo like federal and blazer but when I try the better ammo like Eley or Wolf or SK it misfires about ever other time does any body have any thinking what might be the reason for this Jim

Could be excessive head space or a weak firing pin spring.

Mine has a big chamber and plenty of headspace but it always fires. It actually fires cheap ammo more accurate than good stuff. Kenny

S&L Problem

I have a couple of S&Ls, each with different bolts. I've had a problem in the past of a "sticky" firing pin. You might try this: take the bolt apart and clean and oil the spring. Make sure you clean out the inside of the bolt and the extractor - gunk tends to collect after a number of years, etc. Depending on how the mechanism is configured, the firing pin spring may (or may not) have a spacer between the spring and the rear of the bolt (I have it both ways). After cleaning, if you think the spring may be weak - replace it or try adding a small spacer to increase the spring tension. If the firing pin still isn't engaging the bullet, the firing pin may be bad or worn. I haven't seen any place that sells replacement pins, so I try to buy an extra bolt (when available), as the firing pins on all of the S&L 22lr are the same. Good luck...
