Savage ringing like a bell

I have a Savage BVSS. Put on a Brux 6BR and pillar bedded.

When I shoot it, it rings like a bell. Any ideas?

I never shot it prior to the work, so don't know if it did then or not. I've only put one load through it, so I don't know if it does it with other loads.

It seems to shoot OK. I'm just wondering if this is symptomatic of a too-heavy firing pin spring or similar.

IMO it's a function of pillarbedding it metal-to-metal and perhaps not taking the time to rout out and properly extend the pillars for transfer to the stock???? Sounds to me like the barreled action is kinda' floating in the air and singing to you :)

All I've had time to do is sight it in and shoot one three shot group. I didn't even measure it, but it was three shots in a diagonal line just touching. The holes in the paper I'm using are about .22. So, I'm thinking about .6 something. It's good enough for shooting groundhogs this weekend. After that, I'll put a T-36 on it and do a ladder test with some good bullets that I have laying around.

I remember another thread like this a couple of months ago. I thought this was the same one until I read it.
One question, when you were shooting were you near one of the metal polls that might hold up the roof. I had that one time and finally figured out it was the pole and not the gun.

No metal poles at the range. All wood. Even the benches. Wood benches aren't so bad, but the screws wallow out and they get shakey. At this particular range, each bench is tied into 2 x 6's that connect the 8 x 8 roof supports. So, when something happens on the next bench over, it happens to you too. The "backer boards" are snow fence hung loosely between concrete "poles". So, they can move in the wind. All this makes shooting there pretty challenging. If it's breezy and someone is occupying an adjacent bench, looking through a 42x scope can make one sea sick.

Any chance you're shooting off a bipod & the springs that hold the legs taught are ringing? Mine'll do that w/ my Harris.

I'm shooting off the Farley/Gator combo that I shoot normally. But, good to know as I'll be shooting a friend's that I've pillar bedded for him off a bipod after initial sight in off the Farley.
