Savage LRPV

Am wanting a rifle to shoot in factory class varmint matches where 400 yards is the maximum range. I've narrowed my choices down to the Savage LRPV in 223 with a 1x7 twist or the same model in 22.250 with a 1x9 twist. The 223 with 1x7 twist will shoot 80 grain Sierra MK which have very good BC however the 250 with 9 twist will I'm guessing shoot 69 Sierra MK's. I know the 80 grainers have much better BC than the 69 grain bullets however the 250 will push the 69 significantly faster. I would appreciate thoughts on these two calibers. I know the 6BR is available in this model however I prefer to stick to the 22 caliber - already have dies, cases and bullets.

Thanks much.

Update - I performed some calculations with one of the online ballistic programs and given the following info it appears the 223 possesses less wind drift than the 250;

223 with 80 grain Sierra MK (.420 BC) at 2650 FPS
22.250 with 69 grain Sierra MK (.301 BC) at 3150 FPS

Don't overlook the Berger 80 gr VLD's. My Savage F/TR 223 7 twist loves them.

The LRPV in a 9 twist 22-250 that I have will run Hornady 75 AMAX's, Berger 70 & 75 VLD's quite well. I shot several boxes of Berger 80 gr. VLD's but the 75 Amax's always grouped a little better. H4831SC was my powder of choice.

WC can you recall what velocity you were getting, I am considering trying the 4831SC in my 1=8 T 220 swift. Thanks

Same here, but mine is a 7 twist LRPV. Also loves the Berger 80 gr. moly coated VLD over 25.5 gr. Varget and CCI BR4. I shoot in 400 yd. competition also and it has done well for me. I have 2,700 pills thru the pipe - every one of them molyed and borescope shows very little wear.
