Savage 22-250?

A friend asked me the other night about bullet selection for a Savage 22-250 with a 9 twist barrel.

He has been shooting 55's with poor results.

My experience with fast twist 22 cal barrels is limited. Most of the long range guys I know are shooting 7.5 twist and VLD's.

I suggested he try some of the longer 70-75 grain bullets, Did I steer him in the correct directions?

Thanks in advance for your response.

yes

69 SMK performed well in mine. I have a 1:8 that shoots the 75 SMK and the 75 AMax great as well.

Thanks Tiny

Thought I was on the right track......

69gr SMKs and the 70gr Berger VLD are both excellent choices.:D

69 smk & 70 vld berger/ what powder are you using?

Anyone have any results with these 2 bullets?

Was wondering what powders you are using with these two bullets and what size groups (5 shot) you are getting at 100 & 200 yards? I tried the 69's with IMR 4064 and 4350 without much luck a few years ago but have never tried the 70 vld's. Have a 1 in 8 twist savage that prefered 60 gr HP or 63 gr SP over VV140. Shoots pretty good at 500 yards also. Best at 100 yards 1/2 inch usually closer to one or 1 1/4. Best at 200 yard 3/4 inch usually 1 1/2 to 2 1/2. At 500 on paper 8 1/2 by 11 '' taped to a card board box about 2'x2' do not shoot that range very often so have no idea what size groups would be typical.

Just wondering

Cheers Grog;)
