Savage 12 FV Scope set-uo

A friend of mine just purchased a Savage 12 FV in 22-250 for varmint shooting I would appreciate your recommendation as to the scope, rings and base for him to use. If any of you have this rifle, I would appreciate the benefit of your advice and comments. Thanks for your consideration of my post.

without knowing what or where he is shooting that would be tuff,
but
expect to spend as much on the optics as he did on the rifle.
 
A quick guess as to what will be required is a pretty good scope, say 10+ power, and a good set of rings and bases. That will suffice for the 22-250 Savage but will be a sort of specific glass for such a rifle. I don't know what is available across the board but Leupold comes to mind for the scope. Rings and bases are somewhat a personal choice based on scope height, weight and clutter. I'd keep it as simple and clean as possible. Keep in mind that expensive rings and bases are just that - expensive.
