I just purchased a SA M1, s/n 5xxxxx. Shoots ok for its age however it groups 5 in high at 100M. Note, the lowest the sight adjustment will go is 200M. I did not get any paperwork with it to explain how I adjust the sight to lower point of impact. It does not appear the front sight has been filed but can't be certaain of that.. I have not taken a screwdriver to the site yet. I know there are a lot of "o'l Sarges" out there that can guide me. I have a SA "loaded" M1-A also, but the SA litature that came with it did not go into this problem. Thanks for the help in advance.

assuming your using M2 ball ammo, or appropriate handloads, 8 clicks up from bottom should put you close at 100yds. could also be how your using the sights, happens semi frequently with first time users of that type of sight.

good point lefty.
Target gets sighted on top of the post.
Not, top of the post in the middle of target.
I have NM sights. 7 clicks for 100y. 9 clicks for 200y.
100M is 109.361y.
200M is 218.722y.

Check the rear sight for proper function before you attempt to establish your dead wind zero.

Run the sight all the way up, place a thumb on the top of the raised aperture and try to force the sight down. If it stays up, you are good to go. Other wise you will need to replace sight parts to get it right. Under recoil, worn sights will move.
