Reticule preference

I am looking to buy a 36X Weaver to be used for score shooting @ 1& 200 yards. Is the FCH or the FCH w/ 1/8 moa dot the better choice? Or does it matter?

Thanks, Jim

I have the 36X Weaver and I prefer the dot. But...this is really a matter of personal preference. Many prefer the fine cross hair. Many a match has been won with both.

Doesn't help much, but...there is really no "correct" answer.

I think that it may come down to what you are used to, and where you hold. I use a 6:00 hold on the mothball, with the top edge of the horizontal cross hair touching the outside edge of the mothball. For me, this seems to work better with FCHs. If you hold center of mothball, the dot might give a faster sight picture, easier to center accurately, quickly. Of course you could buy one of each.;) Compared to a March it would still be a lot cheaper. I know....easy for me to say.

For score shooting, you may well find yourself wanting a dot. The dot will give you a sight picture that gives you an indication of your realm of impact. Smaller is better on the dot. But you will find that you use it as an indication of where the bullet should impact.

I prefer the FCH because I find it easier and more accurate to "hold off".

Jim,
I have tried both and found that I was able to acquire my point of aim faster with the dot, and, conversely, found myself taking longer to "aim" my shots with the fine cross hair. I find with the 45x that I have I can use the dot as a spatial reference for hold off and it helps me to shoot more quickly when the conditions are switching fast. I agree with the above posters that it really does come down to personal preference. I guess I could FORCE myself to make a special trip to the range, even though it is WAY out of my way, and I can have my father bring his weaver 36x with a dot so that you can see what you are getting...the sacrifices we make for our sport, eh!
Are you able to make it to the match this Saturday? Should be a good time and quite a bit of competition to boot...three relays guaranteed.

Mike,

Wanted to come out for the shoot this weekend but the extremely rainy weather here is making more work for me than I can handle. Most likely will break a the yearly rain fall record that has been kept for the past 100 years.

TTYL.........Soggy and out

Hi Mike,

Marty and I are planning to be there, should be another good time.

I've had opportunity to look through Vince's scope and my preference is the "Dot" over the FCH. It just seems to naturally attract the eye to it for me anyhow, also was thinking that if I just went out and bought one there would be the "ahhh, you shudda asked first" line and that sinking feeling.

So I'll order a "Dot" and play with it over the winter.

Thanks, Jim
