Results of the Isabella County Sportsman's Club 100/100 Score & Group Shoot 4-23-16
The Isabella County Sportsman's Club (near Mt. Pleasant, MI) hosted a 100 yard score and group shoot on Saturday, April 23, 2016. This was the largest competitor gathering at Isabella that I have ever seen! Some competitors drove as far as 3 hours to demonstrate their skills at the benches. The weather was perfect with a high temperature of 58 and a relative humidity of only 42%. Not a cloud in the sky was the norm for the entire day. We would like to thank the Isabella County Sportsman's Club for hosting the competition, Steve Robbins for loaning his rifle to Freddy Ross and running the line, and all the competitors for the entertainment, camaraderie, and help!
Now onto the results.....
The first match of the day was the 100 score match and it was a doozy to say the least! Freddy Ross (shooting Steve Robbins' gun) was leading the pack after the first three innings with a 13X count. Hot on his heals was the Rimrock shooter from the Lake Michigan Shoreline, Jim Dyke at 12X. And, at a 11X count was the Rogers City Ship's Captain, Rob Fairbanks (who drove all the way down from his moorings in Rogers City. These three fine shooters would duke it out until the final shot was fired. And was it ever a great competition between the three of them! Rob's load came into being in the last three innings - cleaning all three targets. His final score of 250-21X took the top laurels for the score match. Jim Dyke pulled into second place with a 20X count and Freddy Ross sealed third place with 19X. By the way, Rob and Jim were shooting 30BR's and Freddy was shooting a 6PPC. The Factory Class was nailed down by Geoff Schmidt shooting a 220 Swift and ending up with a 235-2X.
The 100 group match was shot in the afternoon under sunny skies and very dry conditions. The tables were turned and the experienced group shooters came out to shine! Jim "Hutch' Hutchison and Kurt Schultz started out neck and neck. But, Hutch just kept his usual cool and won the group match with an exceptional 0.2010" aggregate. Kurt finished up in second place with his very fine 0.2390". And rounding out the top three was the Rimrock shooter again, Jim Dyke with his 0.2687" aggregate. The Factory Class was again commandeered by Geoff Schmidt with his 0.8776" aggregate.
That Rimrock shooter from the Lake Michigan Shoreline, Jim Dyke won the overall with his 2nd and 3rd place finishes. That a boy, Jimmy!
I sure hope that there will be as many if not more shooters at the next Isabella match which will be the first match of the Michigan Score Tournament.
Again, thank you to all that attended and helped with the setup and takedown!
