Current issue of Hand Loader Magazine came with and extra 10 page magazine tittled "AR-Tactical loads" They printed that in a Mil Spec AR-15 20" bbl that a load of 27.5grs of W-W 748 behind a Sierra 65gr GK produced 3,160 FPS web page is www.LoadData.com Does any one think that velocity is unbelievably to high.

Depends, but I sort of doubt it that my 20" AR would be too happy with that load. I like cases to last more than one or two firings, and although I'll lean on a .223 in a bolt gun I'm a little cautious with the AR. Chicken maybe?

I used to own a MK10 mauser bolt action in 223 with a 20" barrel and a very long throat. I could load 55g bullets with 29g of W748 for 3400fps and case life was surprisingly good. Tried the same caper in a Rem 700 and got a tight bolt lift and a blown primer. So the moral of the story is that in some rifles it probably could be done but not in just any 223.

temperature sensitive

I've read that max loads using 748,at normal temperatures may cause problems if summer temperatures go over 90 degrees, but I have no personal experience.
I do know that AR loads should be "balanced" to the buffer spring strength or you can have problems.
I'm another one who prefers to relegate hot .223 loads to my bolt gun.
