repairing stripped screw hole in aluminum

My Lyman STS has a stripped hole in the aluminum cylinder that the recticle mounts on. the hole is for a 3-56 screw. There's another screw and hole 90 degrees from it that's intact so I am able to secure the recticle in the position I want. These screws are loosened so the the recticle can be rotated. The screws don't have to be very tight. What I'd like to know is if the stripped hole can be filled with a metal based epoxy and the retapped.
 
If you decide to try epoxy, try this.

Degrease the hole thoroughly.
Wax the screw using Kiwi neutral paste wax (shoe polish)
Dab a little JB Weld into the hole and gently work the screw in.
Next day unscrew it

I forgot..... wax the screw and WIPE IT OFF clean. Do this twice, each time wiping off all you can. I'd use paper toweling and a knife blade or fingernails to take off all the shoe polish you can get off. Actually buff it dry and shiny if possible. You don't need to see or feel the coating for it to work.
