Remington bolt question

I have a 40X Rem bolt that was in 308 bolt face. It has been reworked down to 223 bolt face and a Sako extractor installed.
I was told that due to the position of the new (223) Sako extractor I cannot change the bolt face back to a larger size. Is this correct?

The slot that is milled in the bolt for the .223 extractor is a lot deeper than the one for the 308 extractor. Also, the small hole that is drilled in the bottom of the slot for the spring and extractor keeper would be in the wrong place. It would not be a good idea to try to cobble it up to make the 308 work. You would also have to re-bush the bolt nose, which could be a problem depending on how it is installed.
Best to buy a 308 bolt or do some trading.
