I bought a box of 1K Remington 7 1/2 Benchrest primers last year.
The outside of the box says 7 1/2 Small Rifle Benchrest primers.
I just opened them and the boxes inside all say Remington 6 1/2 Small Rifle Primers.

Whats up with that?
Did somebody pull the old switch a roo or what?

If they are 6 1/2's, they should be nickel plated IME. I just bought a sleeve of them from Widener's last year. BTW, not a good choice for small caliber stuff, they are hot like the 7 1/2's, but thin & soft.

They are nickle plated.
No wonder they didnt want to shoot very well.

I wonder if I could use them for fire forming?
If not Ill just find someone at the range that can use them.

Many years ago (in the 1970's) when people were sleeving Sako actions for the Australian Sporter Class rifles, it was recommended that the Rem 6 1/2 primers be used. This is because it was felt that the Sako has a weaker/softer firing pin spring than the equivalent Remington.
They will work just fine with lighter loads, but as the cups are thinner, hot loads may cause the firing pin to punch right through one.

After using them a little, I don't recommend them for anything except maybe 357 mag or 38 spl +P. they are too hot for the small caliber stuff, and too soft for much pressure, by rifle standards.
