I very seruisly thinking of getting one of these New in the box. They are about 1000 new. I am thinking of a 308 snice I already have dies bullets etc, what you guys think of them, I know they aint a bench gun but would like to here some input, Thanks Ernie

Couldn't you buy a clean used one and have a custom 5R installed. You would save money and it would be much more accurate.

I agree with Butch but will say that the factory 5R guns several of my friends have bought shoot very good. Will they win a benchrest match,no, but they will shoot with or out shoot most other factory guns i've seen. I suppose you need to decide what the intended purpose of the rifle is to be.

I was thinking "out of the box" including the stock, stainless action and the 5R bbl really a 1000 dollars aint all that bad, Plus there is no wait involved. With proper handloading is it resonable to get 1/2 groups a 100 yds?

I think its like any other factory rifle. It is definitely a hit or miss proposition. Some Remington's are pretty good some simply are not!! Its a crap shoot and for 1000 bucks is a crap game i choose not to play!! Look for a used rem 700 VS in 308. Its about the same thing and a hole lot less money, or do what was mentioned above> here is what i would do if i were wanting one. I would find a donor rem 700 action for around 350 bucks. I would then buy a used HS stock for 200 bucks. I would buy a new shilen barrel 265 bucks and then pay another 350 to have my action trued and the barrel installed. So now we have around 1165 or so invested in a rifle that will flat out shoot any factory rem 700 5R. In two months from now you will never even miss the extra 165 bucks you have spent because you will be having way to much fun shooting a great rifle. It sounds like your mind is made up anyway, so I'm sure you will be fine! Enjoy!! Lee

If you have any questions about the 5R, go to the snipercountrypx website and check them out. When you locate the rifle, check out image 4, and I think it will answer your question about 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Scott Powers runs the site , and has a wealth of knowledge about shooting in general. He is also very patient, and will be glad to answer any of your questions.

I purchased a 5R 308 from him about a year ago, and have been very pleased with the rifle. It's been very competitve in the two factory class 600 yard shoots I've attended. In only my second shoot, I finished 2nd out of 11 seasoned competitors. One of my 5 shot groups was 2.1545". I wish my other three were that good, but I was very happy with a 4.8" overall average at 600 yards.
