Rem Sendero SF II

Hello All,

I have been reading this site for a long time. I am well aware of the Rem vs Savage camps here. I am also aware of the common responses to Rem questions, skim bed, trigger job, ect. With that being said, I want to ask this question.

I want to buy a new Rem Sendero SF II in 7mm rem mag. In general, assuming the rifle is not a "lemon", will the rifle shoot MOA or better with factory ammo, after finding the type of ammo it likes? Thank you in advance for your reply.

John,

I think you will be very pleased w/ the sendero.

Almost every vssf & sendero I have seen will shoot. If one was a little eratic then bedding usually solved the problem.

MOA or better is not asking for too much & w/ the quality of factory ammo available, you will get the accuracy you are asking.

Good Luck!!

I have a couple of senderos that shoot really well. You make an excellent choice of caliber. While just my opinion, the 7mm Mag is just about the right overall cartridge for North America. Good optics and ammo will be the make or break for most factory rifles. One thing I do not like about the new senderos is the fininsh. Too bright and reflective. Great rifle but I would pull the barrel action out of the stock and have some coating applied as to reduce the reflectivity of the factory finish. Did I mention GOOD OPTICS!!:D

Johnb9: I hope your Sendero will shoot M.O.A. with factory ammo but I can't make that promise to you or even give you an experience based opinion.
I have a wonderfully accurate Remington Sendero in caliber 270 Winchester and it shoots 1/2 M.O.A. (with a Leupold 8.5x25 variable scope on it) using my carefully crafted handloads! These are 5 shot groups at 100 yards by the way.
All my friends with Sendero's in various calibers also use handloaded ammunition! And they all experience accuracy under 1 M.O.A. with their handloaded ammunition.
I agree with 30/378's posting in that your choice of the 7mm Remington Magnum Sendero is going to allow you to Hunt just about any type Big Game that may come along here in North America.
I have taken Blacktailed Deer, Mt. Goat, Mule Deer, Black Bear, Elk, Antelope, Whitetailed Deer and Coyotes with my various 7mm Remington Magnums!
I have friends who have taken Bighorn Sheep, Caribou and Moose with the 7mm Remington Magnum as well.
"IF", I had it to do over again I think I would also go with the 7mm Remington Magnum in the Sendero Model over the 270 Winchester Sendero I got several years ago.
I literally "stole" my Sendero from a non-Hunter who won the Rifle in a raffle type situation and wanted to sell it QUICKLY.
My main obstacle to recommending the Sendero in 7mm Remington Magnum with factory ammo as a 1 M.O.A. Rifle is - I am just NOT that familiar with factory ammo!
In the past 48 years I have owned and shot at least 200 Rifles (probably closer to 250!) and I have used factory ammo in only about 10 of them!
Two current exceptions are a Remington 700 SS/DBM in caliber 25/06 Remington. I use factory ammunition in this Rifle (Remington PSP's) and with a Leupold 4.5x14 scope it will group (5 shots at 100 yards) just under 1 M.O.A., consistently.
Nothing but a trigger job done to this sporter Remington weight Rifle by the way.
The other current exception is my brand new Spring Bear Hunting and dark timber Elk Hunting Rifle which is a Tikka in 338 Federal. It shoots factory Federal ammunition into groups (5 shots at 100 yards) right at 1 M.O.A.!
I have a "hunch" that with a 6x18 variable scope on the Sendero, and after trying several quality factory munitions in the Sendero that indeed you should reach or best 1 M.O.A. accuracy!
My Remington 700 Classic in 7mm Remington Magnum (with a Leupold 3.5x10 and handloads) year after year makes 3 shot sight-in verification groups between .5 M.O.A. and .6 M.O.A.!
I normally don't like to shoot 5 shot groups with my Magnums (flinch prevention program in use!) thus the 3 shotters my Magnum's.
I do know this, there is a very high resale value in used (but well cared for!) Remington Sendero's so if for some reason you don't like it the Rifle will resell easily.
Best of luck if you decide to try the Sendero.

These replys have been very helpful. I am really looking forward to getting this rifle. I will be putting a good scope on it, thinking Zeiss Conquest line, and will be trying out the many top shelf ammo brands and types. I want to start handloading in the future, those Berger V.L.D. bullets look great. One of the main reasons I like the 7mm is the high B.C. over the 30 cal.

the 140g Nosler BT shoots 3 1/2" at 550 yds......

with a 8-32 Black Diamond with 65g of IMR 4350, Rem Case, 9 1/2 primer with Vias muzzle brake.

in all my years I've only seen one sendero/vfss that wouldn't really shoot good(it had been "worked on,fire lapped & tuned" by someone before my buddy bought it. my pet 7mag load,,,,,,,,150 sierra GameKing, 65 gr H4831sc & 215 fed primer, got a wall full of nice bucks with that combo

It's always a crap shoot, you never really know until you spend your hard earned cash... Start out with an appropriate barrel break in session and brass fireforming....even before that, get that factory trigger adjusted down, benchrest shooting with a 6-9 lb trigger gets a little tough at best...it should work safely down to 2 1/2 lbs, not great but better than factory....get yourself a good scope, one with enough power to be able to see the target clearly... 8.5 x 25 Leupold would be a great choice... bullets are next, hunting or target... there sure is alot of variables when you start to think about it.... I'd start with H-4350 powder for starters..good luck
