redding die conversion

Is there anyone out there that converts non bushing dies to bushing dies. I can't find any info doing a search of forums for die conversion. Serveral years ago I had two Lazrroni dies converted, but can't for the life of me remember who did it. I have 7mm and a 300 Dakota giving me inconsistant head space when resizing. One is Redding, the other is RCBS. Thanks in advance, Waverly
 
I've done it. You have to break through the case hardened surface but that is no big deal with a quality carbide boring bar. From there, it is a piece of cake.
I think someone named Jim Cartensen (or close to that) does it commercially. He does a great job from what I have heard.

what does bushing dies or not...have to do with headspace( really cartridge CLEARANCE) ???

Depends on the die. If you have the sholder bump type like Neil Jones makes
you can make a huge difference in the head space. The every day dies like Redding do not touch the sholder with the bushing. Case length is controlled by the length of the die body just like the non bushing types.
 
Karl........I don't think that is so? I have bought blank bushing neck sizing dies from the likes of Bill Gebhart or Newlon. Run my finish reamer in..... It will now size the neck and it will bump the shoulder; depending on how far I push the case into the die. And that will effect headspace.

Thanks for the info. By converting the dies to bushing type I am fixing one of my sizing problems. These dies are from Dakota and I beleive they oversize the neck and when I pull the sizing button back through it is a fight. I'm going to also polish the sizing buttons and I think this will solve my problems. Thanks again for the info. Regards, Waverly

Redding die conversions

I've had Jim Carstensen (JLC Precision) convert several Redding body dies to bushing dies and can attest the man does first class work, reasonably priced.

He requires 5 to 7 properly fired cases along with your die. You'll receive back a perfectly polished and honed die that will take a neck bushing. Your resized cases will fit your chamber like a nice fitting glove.

A very nice gentleman to do business with decent turn around time.

Sorry for reviving an old thread.
Is this the same for all Redding, RCBS dies?
I can handle just case-hardened dies for turning them into bushing/button style neck dies only.
